The Weakest Link - Road Apples - Round 2 -
gsmacleod - 09-17-2017
Here we go with Round 2; Born in the Water was the clear choice as the weakest track on Road Apples with Bring it all Back and Fight also being eliminated.
Eliminated in Round 1:
Born in the Water
Bring it all Back
Fight
Again, choose the song you think is the weakest on the album from those remaining. After 48 hours, the three songs with the most votes will be eliminated and we'll do round three.
Happy voting!
Note - voting will end Tuesday at 9:32am Eastern.

You do realize it is sacrilege to vote against Fiddlers today of all days, right?

Incredibly tough. Just wait until it’s down to Little Bones, Three Pistols, Cordelia, LTR and Fiddlers. I can't even contemplate voting one of those as being "weak"!
I voted for Gems. It’s a confounding song for me. You could tell me it’s perfect, and I could agree. It really is “music that can take you away”. Close my eyes and I feel like it’s the music that I’d want to play me into the figurative afterlife while I’m on my death bed. It can be that powerful, especially live when the length of the song usually doubles.
However, tell me that the Hip shouldn’t have stuck this on the end of the album because it’s a half-baked lyrical idea, and I could also agree. Fiddler’s Green would have been a fine album closer. Tell me that, like Coconut Cream, Gord was unable to lyrically match the musical contributions of his bandmates in a qualitative sense, and I would not disagree.
In the end, for as good as it is, I voted for Gems because it could have been something even better.

At this point I'm basically just closing my eyes and picking at random. I ended up with On the Verge for no particular reason, as none of these songs are weak by any means.

So tough! Went with On the Verge but an incredibly hard decision; not sure how I'm going to decide the next round!

At the end of the day I picked "Gems," not because it's a bad song - quite the contrary - but because it's so brief. Now I think the brevity is part of the song's effectiveness, but at the end of the day, if you drop that one, you're losing the fewest minutes of incredible music. That's what it's come to.
I really enjoy 'On the Verge,' but I can understand its taking the lead in the poll. Its chorus is sort of banal and there are a few goofy lines in it. Nonetheless it's a great rave-up.
EDIT: I vote that we summarily execute whoever voted for 'Fiddler's Green.' WHO'S WITH ME????

I've always loved Gems and never got to see it live (was hopeful in Ottawa but we got an extended Gift Shop intro) but loved the magic of this drawn out for the "Gord Break," just a fun jam.

"No particular reason" will be how my voting is defined for the rest of RA. I will be unable to justify any of my future picks.

Boy "On the Verge" really taking it on the chin.

I went On The Verge just because the other songs have stronger riffs. I do love the undertaker line though.

On the verge was always a pleasant surprise when I saw it live, certainly a rocker. While I may enjoy the song more than LTR or Fiddler's I agree they are stronger songs.
Will Live Between Us be part of this exercise or are we sticking to studio albums only?

I've never loved On the Verge. Probably my least favorite song on the album. Never been a fan of the chorus, and the backing vocals never sounded good to me live. Not a bad song, but all these other options are so much better. How did Fiddler's Green get two votes?! How!???!!
