Band Member relationships - spasticreelin - 07-25-2016

Many of you on this site know a lot more about The Hip than I ever will.

Question - I know the band members, as a whole, are very close, but are there certain members of the band that are known to have a stronger relationship or a few membrs who hang out more socially when the band is not touring or recording?

Curious...

Rob and Gord Sinclair seem to do a lot of other collaborating together outside of the band. Seems like every other weekend they are with a few local Kingston acts as guest musicians.

Also, back in 2006 I ran into Rob at the RnR Hall of fame before their show at the HOB. He was there with Gord and Johhny.

Pretty sure Gord D. and Paul have known each other since they were teenagers. During a show in Edmonton a few years ago, Gord told a story/rant in the middle of Meridian about him and Paul hitchhiking to P.E.I. when they were young. Of course with Gord, you never know if he's just making the whole thing up, but in this case I think it was true.

With the close setup for the opening numbers, it does seem Gord reacts with and to Paul quite a bit - now, of course, he is also rit beside him, but it just felt rather connected

I once saw Gordie out of Hip context, and then Paul came. And they hugged.

It was cute as fuck.

I wonder what's going through their (Gord.S,Paul,Johnny,Rob) minds while they play these songs?

Its got to be quite emotional for them as well, or maybe its all on hold.

Great to seem them all united on stage like that, and based on all the video Ive seen of this tour so far, Gord seems to be interacting with his band mates more than usual.

So it seems anyways.

I don't think until now I have ever seen Gord give the band hugs and kisses at the end of a set. So, there's got to be some emotional release once the show is over. Surely on stage it's mostly all business.

I believe that at the Coke Machine Glow poetry reading at the National Library, in the Q & A session afterward, Gord mentioned that Paul was 'his bud' and that he'd visit Paul's place and they'd repair to the garage for a smoke. (The tittering audience took this to be a reference to dope, but I suspect it really just referenced cigarettes). Anyhow, my memory may be distorted, but that's what I've got.
