The Tea Party- The Ocean at the End - direwolf74 - 09-28-2014

Anybody else check out this album yet? I'm listening right now and it's not bad for their first outing in 10 years. Some of Jeff Martin's lyrics are still somewhat cringe-worthy, but the music is exactly what you'd expect from these guys: Zeppelin-esque hard rock with Middle Eastern flourishes, a couple of catchy ballads, and some killer guitar solos from Martin. They're touring for this one as well, starting in Australia of course where they've always been more popular than they are here at home. Word from the band is that a Canada/U.S. tour is also in the works. I missed them on their reunion tour in 2012, so I'll likely try and catch them this time. They've never failed to kick my ass in a live setting.

I'm enjoying this way more than I thought I would. Way better than Seven Circles, likely better than...whatever the one before that was, and possibly even better than Triptych. Yeah, some of the lyrics are awful, but at least the music is better this time around.

Have always wanted to see The Tea Party, but looks like their skipping over my new home of Ottawa. Unfortuneate, definetly would have gone.

Montreal is only a 2 hour drive from Ottawa, and the show is on a Friday night. Easy road trip.

part of me wants to go to the moncton gig but the voice of reason says, dont and remember edgefest 96 and without all it's non-radio ballad garbage

Easy if I had a car haha

Oh, same night I have Sloan tickets in Ottawa. Can't win em all!

Re: The Tea Party- The Ocean at the End - daylight - 10-01-2014

Why do bands keep playing Union Hall? It's a terrible venue and I'm skipping the Moist tour already as a result.

Re: The Tea Party- The Ocean at the End - direwolf74 - 10-01-2014

$50 for Calgary tickets. Yikes! Considering they're essentially playing a club for that show (Flames Central), that's a little steep in my opinion. I have a hard time believing these guys are still popular enough at this point to warrant those prices. Maybe back in the late 90s during their heydey, but certainly not now. That being said, they do put on an absolutely killer show, and it's been years since I've seen them. So I'll most likely cave and buy tix anyway. But my wallet is none too pleased. I was actually expecting them to be around the $25 - $30 range. Bummer.

Hoo boy, I really didn't expect the Tea Party reunion album to be better than the Moist one, but here we are.
