It's been a long time coming... -

...but I've lost my love for The Hip.
All kinds of promise of b-sides, re-issues, etc - and then nothing.
And Gord's live "singing"... Ugh. I'm done with it.

I feel your pain, brother. I still like the studio albums, and I'll probably buy the next one just to hear new material. but their live show is broken. The Hip were once the greatest live band in the world. An absolute beast that could wipe the floor with any other band. Sad to see how far they've tumbled in that department. And don't even get me started on their lazy, pathetic setlist choices.

I haven't seen them since 2009, which I thought was fantastic.
What is the problem with Gord's singing this time around? Do you have a clip or anything that can show me? I've read lots of comments about his scream-singing, but I haven't seen/heard anything to really show me what's up.
Thanks!

It's frustrating to be a fan of this band, and that's not what I signed up for. I'm late to the PJ game and at this point in my life it's tough to get into them the way I could've when I was younger, but man - they are killing it in every way. I want to be a fan of theirs. There's an attraction to being their fan, but that's gone from my beloved Hip.
As for Gord's singing - listen to any recording from this year.

If you want to get rid of any of your hip belongings/recordings, feel free to send me a PM!

archive.hipfans.com is where all of my audio, and my collected audio recordings will be available for everyone.
I have very few pieces of memorabilia.
I will be getting rid of my stash of CD singles and likely some vinyl. The singles are useless to me - I've got digital copies of everything anyway... And I have no idea why I fell into buying vinyl when I have no interest or intention of ever getting a record player!

It's healthy and sometimes necessary to walk away from things like The Hip from time to time. Allows for a bit of perspective, and there's nothing worse than following something blindly simply out of habit.
I too do not feel the same jazz for the band that I did years ago. And while that's not meant to disrespect their legacy, it's simply that the choices they've made this late in the game don't reflect the progressive attitude in their music and business model they displayed in spades in the 90's and 00's.

Agreed. The Hip's music has basically been the soundtrack to my entire adult life, and I'll forever love them for the joy they've brought me over the years. When I criticize them, it's not out of disrespect to their legacy or what they've accomplished as artists. Hell, I'll even continue to buy their new records because I still think they're brilliant songwriters. I love NFPA. But as a live act they're dead to me right now. I really hope they can get their shit together. But until they start giving their back catalogue some love again, and until Gord realizes that what he's doing on stage with his singing is NOT working, then their live show will continue to spiral downward into that big black hole of suck. Pretty sad for a band that was once the premier live act of their time. Here's hoping they can turn things around in the near future.

Holy shit! I searched 2013 shows on youtube, first few seemed fine (winter tour). But these summer shows - What the hell? It's like he is trying to ruin his voice on purpose.

You weren't kidding!

Its bound to happen when you have followed every movement of the band and been to show after show I don't care who it is...we are fortunate they have allowed us to do this and get close to them sure as hell is not happening with most bands out there...I think you are asking to much from them they have been around a long time and most bands do not stick around anywhere near this amount of time. For me I am happy they are still putting out solid new material like NFPA but I don't go to every single show that is within driving distance.
