best interaction with the lads? -

hey music lovers...
curious on the various interactions that us have had with the boys, whether at a cafe or an aftershow or whatever...I always like reading these and thought it would be thread worthy. I will even kick it off as I am 37,000 feet high somewhere between Vegas and YYZ.
I have had the good fortune of hanging with the guys on many occasions and will say that chatting with Paul Langlois, my cousin, Gord Downie, Tony Tanti's son after the recent LA show was a lot of fun as we all just kinda hung and chatted about life in general.
My other fave moment was back in chicago hanging with Johnny and listening to his India trek stories in an HOB lounge after a show back in the early 2000's.
A consolidated look at peoples experiences with the guys and/or their entourage would be an interesting read for me so please chime in with your experiences.
Cheers!

Met Paul once at the first ARA in '93. He was just walking around in the crowd and hardly anyone seemed to notice him, but my friends and I approached him and chatted him up for a few minutes. Just an all-round super guy. He signed my ticket stub.
Met and chatted with Gord D. in Ottawa in early 2002 after he gave a poetry reading. He signed my copy of Coke Machine Glow: "Gord Downie...in conversation with Casey." I remember he talked about how excited he was about the then soon to be released "In Violet Light" which they were still working on.
Met Johnny at the Republik Nightclub in Calgary at a Mahones show in '96 (the Hip were still in town, having played a show at the Saddledome the night before). As is typical with all five members of this band, he was very cool, very gracious, and was more than happy to talk for a few minutes before the Mahones took the stage.
And that's all I got.

I too have met the boys a few times, my most memorable time being after the London '07 show with Sinclair and Langlois. We talked record collections while my girlfriend hung out with their wives, talking Turkish markets. I also enjoyed seeing Langlois have to sneak out a few boxes of crackers from their backstage rider. The glamour of rock n' roll.

Gord D always manages to make eye contact with me, no matter where i sit, wether it be front row, nosebleeds, g/a floor, men's room, beer stand, or the penalty box, always...and it's always that same look of disgust, like "you're ruining it for everyone". although, to be fair, i always take my shirt off and hold up a sign that says "Marry Me Go®d D." and start dancing around Jack Black style, so maybe he's right, maybe i'm wrong, who knows, it's hard to say, it's sad but true, i'm kinda dumb, and so are you.

My most memorable interaction was with Gord Sinclair in Rochester, at the end of the World Container tour. My friend and I were eating in a hotel restaurant before the show when Gord and his family/friends came in for dinner. There were about 10 of them, total. My friend had a note he wanted to slip to Gord Downie (long story, but he thought they might have known each other as young kids...) so I jokingly suggested he should pay for Sinclair's dinner so that he could pass along the note. When my friend asked for the bill, he also asked for Gord's table's! The waiter asked "are you sure, it's a good one", but my friend paid for it anyway. We were worried for a minute it might be like $400 or something, but it wasn't too bad a bill, for 10 people, as it came out to under $200.
When Gord heard that their bill was covered, he came over and chatted for a while. He was super nice; and when we met them after the show that night, he walked right over to us and we had another long talk. He passed my friend's note to Gord D., but it didn't turn out that they knew each other.

That's pretty f***ing funny, TDC.
I talked to Bobby on a sunny afternoon in LA on Sunset Boulevard right outside the Wiskey-A-Go-Go for about 15 minutes once. He was cool as shit.

We've met the band many times, but this was one of our favorites.
Gord explaining something about Ry Cooder.

That is a great pic!! I went to Woodstock 94 but did not make it to the 99....was it a decent show? I also have only seen a couple vids of the Hip performing here and they sounded great...curious if one can find their whole set on vid?

How about a morning/afternoon of golf with Paul and Gord S? (Rochester 11/3/12)
When picking them up, Gord Downie actually introduced himself to me.
We hit up a Tim Horton's first for some coffee, hung out for a bit there, then golfed 'til sound check.
Got them back in time for that, and was able to watch it, then saw them again after the show.
And they played Three Pistols for me!
Absolutely great guys.

It's all who you know. I'm blessed with some great friends, and was invited a few days before. Funny, it was probably my 50th Hip show too, and the first time I got to meet them besides momentary brushes with them over the last almost 20 years.

I sat behind Gord D at an REM show in Toronto (Monster tour). As we were walking out gave him a little nod, a handshake and thanked him for his music.
