The Right Whale tracks -
MattPower - 10-02-2012
I'm looking for mp3's of "The Right Whale" videos from Hipeponymous. These were the videos they used as backdrops for their shows, and they put instrumental music to them for the Boxed Set. I thought it would be really cool to have the audio files on my Hip mix. Does anyone know if these exist anywhere?

What I think I did - they are on Youtube and I used a Youtube audio grabber to, um, grab the audio.

If they are on youtube, can you please send a link because I certainly can't find them.

Sorry - Youtube removed them because they suspended the account

`The Right Wale` is probably my favorite Tragically Hip album.

Download DVD audio extractor. Easy to use, free and should do exactly what you want!

So I ripped the audio from the DVD. Worked like a charm!

Glad it worked, I've used it for numerous music DVDs over the years.

So, I dunno about you guys, but I have a brand new Hip album called The Right Whale ...
I dug my Hipeponymous box set out of a cupboard last night, because I wanted to rip No Threat and The New Maybe onto my car's onboard jukebox (had to import the songs into iTunes and then drag and drop them onto an SD card, and then save the SD card onto the car's hard drive - what year is this???).
In doing so, I popped the Bonus Features disc in, which in truth I never paid much attention to back in 2005, except for watching Macroscopic once and maybe having The Right Whale vignettes play through once or twice (I don't think I've ever watched any of the Video Kills videos).
Started listening to Cooking in Wartime and loved the Gord poem that comes in halfway through. Logged on to Hipbase to see if anyone had ever posted audio files. Found this thread and decided, what the hell, I'll download DVD Audio Extractor and see if I can get it to work. It did. Voila! I have a brand new Hip album to listen to on the way into work this morning!

Literally took five minutes with DVD Audio Extractor. And I am scared of technology.

I hadn't listened to these tracks in forever; ripped them and here's a link for anyone else who wants to give them a listen:

There must have been something in the air last week - I ripped a copy from 'Hipeponymous' having not listened to it for years

I love 'The Right Whale', especially 'Cooking in Wartime' and the title track - beautiful.
So I knocked up a CD cover and tray:
if anyone else wants a copy of my hi-res PDFs (
for personal use only please), feel free to drop me a PM.
