Day For Night original release date -
smubbs - 06-25-2012
Can anyone tell me the EXACT date (or where to look for a legitimate answer) that Day For Night was released on vinyl? On a Google search it gives a multitude of answers, but I know already it was in Sept. 1994. I'm pretty sure it was the 24th, but the dates of 19th and the 1st are also out there. Any help here would be greatly appreciated... Thanks.

The Canadian release date was September 24, 1994.
The US release date was February 14, 1995.

Thank You! This is awesome. I have this album on vinyl, unopened, with the sales receipt taped to it dated "24-09-94". Now, to figure out how much to sell this rarity for....

It's funny to see how greed comes to the surface....
To all the sellers out there searching for a quick buck - will the difference between selling it for $30 vs. $250 make any real difference in your life?
In 1994 why did you buy it? To make a couple hundred bucks in 2012?

Obviously, not a real Hip fan. This guy joins the forum in June 2012 for the sole purpose of getting information (that you could get anywhere BTW), then lets us know he has this album and can make a few bucks...sad

Couldn't agree with you more. Why not tear the packing off and crank this on yer turntable? That's what it was made for. The fact that someone let a copy of Day For Night sit in it's packing for 18 years doesn't just make me doubt if they're a fan, it makes me doubt their sanity as well.

right on all accounts. I won't lie and say I am a true fan... and when I bought it, I knew it was a rarity. Someone out there would, no, will appreciate it in vinyl format much more than I... I came here to find a release date as the web was not definitive on it, and I knew a place such as this could give me this. And it did. As far as money goes... lets just say I will get much more than the $11.98 price tag on the wrap. Sad???... perhaps, but it is the world we live in now. Accept it.

I can understand selling it from his point of view.
Why not?
He owns it and apart from the artwork he has never used it and it just collects dust.
I own a sealed TATH that I do not listen to - I have it framed on my wall.
And I do have a record player.
Waste of a great sounding disk? Hell yes.
People outgrow stuff - and when the market is high is usually good time to sell.
I still have my Commodore 64 that I loved, for some nostalgic reason - but it collects dust.
If the market was higher I would sell it.
We outgrow bikes, comics, pokemon cards........
Someday I may outgrow my Hip collection and sell it and probably get 25 cents because I waited too long.
Sorry, just felt bad everyone jumping on the guy.

What I find problematic is the fact he\she comes to a fan site to look for the information.
I little more Googler time would likely have yielded the desired results.
Shows little respect for what the forum is all about.

If you read the original post, there are several 'release' dates for this album when I googled it originally. I figured that by coming here with a forum set up by true Tragically Hip fans... I would get a proper answer. Which, for all intents and purposes... I did. Wether I decide to sell or not (It actually is a great conversation piece whenever someone browses thru my vinyl collection) is still up in the air. I hardly find what I have done even remotely disrespectful, actually, more to be respectful as I have come to a place where people who love the band could give a straight honest answer, rather than the speculation of search engines. A couple answers there gave 2006 as the release date, for crying out loud! The mob rule mentality of this place is shocking (apart from one responder, who gave the initial answer btw) to be honest... I've got what I asked for, so there is no real reason left for me to be here anymore. Happy listening everyone!

:thumb: I don't think the multiple reasons why people join hipbase matters. What matters is having a positive space for people to share musical knowledge & discoveries.
