Almost 100 innocent Norwegians were murdered by a mad man, and the world shows some concern... Until a drug and booze addled singer dies - one that almost everyone thought was going to die at her own hand yet did nothing to prevent.

annnnnnnnd.....how are these related? How does what happened in Norway make it's way into an Amy Winehouse thread?
I understand how some people act like Amy's death was "tragic", even though it's not....Norway is Tragic.....and how some people have the inability to determine what deserves a higher level of importance on a global and sociological scale.....but they're not related....
Nobody bitches about how Kurt Cobain's death is more remembered than the fact that the Rwandan massacres started the day before his body was found. But by the logic of those that feel it's their duty to remind people of they should feel is more important, maybe they should bitch.

I understand Chris' point. It's a question of proportionality. Does Amy Winehouse deserve more media time than 100 nameless Norwegians simply because she was famous? No. But her death is sad in its own way and I don't think a thread on the Base about it is disproportionate.

Naturally, I feel for Winehouse's family, but true talent manifests itself in longevity.
Winehouse, though she had a very soulful voice, had only one memorable record with two memorable songs. She ranks at the bottom of the "27" club as far as artistic output and legacy. So many artists have struggled with drug problems; and so many of those artists have overcome these problems because they've realized how important their art is to themselves and to the rest of the world. Winehouse, sadly, never came to that realization.

Good point, but I'd argue her entire sophomore album "Back to Black" is memorable.
