Ben Harper at Sound Academy Toronto July 5th 2011 - thebends - 07-06-2011

The most amazing, mind blowing, outstanding show I have ever seen in my life. Completely blown away by this 3.5 hour performance, 3 encores, blistering cover of CSNY's Ohio, and a wicked 15 minute cover of Zep's No Quarter. Also included a fab cover of PJ's Jeremy squeezed in the middle of Glory & Consequence. If that wasnt enough homage to some of the best bands in the world they also covered Queen's Under Pressure. Despite all the covers he still managed to hit songs from his entire LP catalogue including 1994's stunning Welcome to the Cruel World.

Ben also sang acapella during Where I Could Go with the entire house in a dead silence, you could have heard a pin drop for those precious few minutes. Chills! He did this at Massey Hall a couple of years ago and it was equally outstanding.

Combo of Ground on Down, No Quarter and Ohio sets the bar for the best ~30 minutes of live music I've experienced.

WOW! Tongue

Sounds like an awesome night. Mr Harper hasn't come to Calgary since the early 2000s which is sad. I caught him at Sasquatch a few years ago and it was the same thing-30,000 people outside on an amazing spring evening with the mountains and Columbia river as a backdrop, and at times, everyone was completely silent.
