VIP or caged Animals? - crazykid - 07-02-2011

Did anyone else do the VIP thing at Downsview and was slightly unhappy with it?
I know for myself after doing VIP tickets to shows at bayfest and such I was super disappointed with the layout of the land.
Sitting on the grassy hill in the VIP ( tryng to make the best of being so far back ) you had to look through a 10ft high fence and have the GA people stare at you like you were a caged animal.

The bathrooms were nice - really nice, but turned into disaster trying to get to them once it got closer to show time for Weezer. 3 ladies stalls, and only a couple for the dudes, another weak decision by the promoters.

The show over all was pretty good, I though weezer kicked ass - I had never seen them live and though they did a wicked a job. The hip, well its the hip - is there ever a bad hip show???

Maybe im getting old, maybe i just have higher expectations when I spend almost $300 for a pair of "VIP" tickets. I dont know...

Anyone else's thoughts??? I know I sure wont be doing it again.

Bill

PS - my email to goldenvoice bounced back, I emailed them from the show with my complaints. Anyone ( Mav ? ) Have a email for them so I can voice my opinion - if they dont know people were unhapp - they cant fix it for future right?

I noticed the VIP aswell and said thank god I didn't waste money on that. Horrible side angle and fencing obstructing your view.

Here's my (iphone) pic of from the VIP in Bobcaygeon... Needless to say I'm just as disappointed as the next guy. Oh and the fence was in the way here too, but I reached over it for the pic. To pay almost twice as much, you think they'd put you a little closer.

I completely agree and was really dissapointed by the location of the vip area...really poor sight and sound.

the e-mail I have for goldenvoice is here hipticketing@goldenvoice.com

based out of LA...let me know if you get any feedback.

I can rationalize the repetitive set lists but the VIP mess is unbelievable. It really looks like greedy promoters taking advantage of Hip fans.

Who would of ever thought music promotors were such scumbags?

Re: VIP or caged Animals? - kennedy11 - 07-02-2011

Absolutely disgusted with the VIP section.
VIP to me, means up close. Not a freakin' country mile away.
For $150 I expected to be close. Again, disgusted!
Gimme a break for the people who are sticking up for The Hip playing the same songs EVERY night!
That is a VERY LAZY way to earn your money. I am a huge HIP fan, and they are just going through the motions, and that makes me very upset!
I expected a helluva lot more from my favorite bandSad

I too was extremely dissapointed with VIP. I got sucked in for Bobcaygeon and Downsveiw. The site should at least tell us that VIP doesn't get u closer to the stage. I assumed we would be in the pit or something. I managed to squish my way to the front for both shows but it took me a looong time and was not easy......

Re: VIP or caged Animals? - patiodweller - 07-04-2011

The VIP section was in no way shape or form a VIP section. It was a SCAM. It was put together by an insane person!

Re: VIP or caged Animals? - WesleyC. - 07-05-2011

I did not get VIP for the reason that all I saw on the description was mention of parking being closer (downsview) and washrooms, beer and food was at a better ratio. For myself well Bobcageyon had way more than enough washrooms as did Downsview, Beer, well lets just say I love beer but not enough to stand in those lines at either show, food, uhhhh I did not care for the selection at either venue, but my wife sure did like that HUGE onion from bloomin onion. As for close or not to the stage, well for both shows, Bobcageyon AND Downsview we got about 15 feet from the front of the stage right along the center railing on the right hand side and I got some of the best pictures I have ever taken.
So all in all, I would say YEA those of you that got VIP got SCREWED.
As for the setlist being basically the same, I kind of expected that as its just a mini tour to feel out a few new songs and feed the hip nation with a snack.
Last tour was awsome, went 3 nights in a row in Kitchener and heard almost 60 different songs, so I would not agree with the other person who says they are lazy. Id just say that in reality how many people do you think were at both Bobcageyon AND Downsview, Id say a good bet on the conservative side would be probably 2000 at most. Prob more around 1000 and mabey as low as 500 went to both shows. So a similar set list should not be of concern to the band. THATS MY OPINION N IM STICKIN TO IT.

Re: VIP or caged Animals? - MountainHip - 07-08-2011

I was not at Sonic Boom (Edmonton) last year, but my buddy was in that VIP area, and it was on the left side of the stage, halfway back, and reportedly there were long lines for beer, and the site lines were just 'ok'

I do regret informing you of this however, never the less, relaying the info

Re: VIP or caged Animals? - emmavoss - 07-11-2011

I drove from NYC to Toronto to see the concert and was really disappointed with the entire VIP experience - it was a cage of animals literally. The audience was a disgrace - rude, drunk, aggressive - the stage view was terrible and the bathroom situation was a nightmare. Gord was average at best.

Re: VIP or caged Animals? - Moosehead - 07-11-2011

Ottawa Bluesfest does it right. Totally splurged for this show only and was happy.

Their Gold Circle is really close to the stage (but a bit to the side, still great sightline) and literally zero (not even one) lineup for the bar. Seat->bar->seat in 1 minute. Nobody seemed to be overdoing it though which was nice. They had these giant "VIP washroom" portable things that I didn't have the umm opportunity to check out but there seemed to be an attendant outside. They have another reserved section called the Clubhouse but was behind this one.

They seem to play the Bluesfest every second year so this just for anyone considering 2013.

Re: VIP or caged Animals? - patiodweller - 07-12-2011

Yes, Ottawa's Bluesfest's Gold Circle resembled a VIP section. The only thing missing was food but the no wait for drinks + great selection of drinks + interac payment option for drinks + the nice washrooms with no lines and they actually put the section close to the stage and not miles away from the stage, what a concept! Does anyone know WHO put the Toronto VIP section in the middle of nowhere where nobody could get anywhere near the stage? Was it a mistake?
