Hiccups > Daredevil - tthhead87 - 05-19-2011

I'm trying to remember the date of the show where the boys playing hiccups > daredevil... but dedicate the song to Neil (who couldn't be there that night)... It's a killer version. I've looked through every show I have of them playing DD and I cant find it.

Does anyone know the show/song I'm referring to?

There is a great version of these 2 songs from the Feb 2 1995 Halifax Metro Centre show recording, but I'm not sure its the one dedicated to Neil. Its on Live From the Vault Vol 1.

there is a version available off itunes that has the hiccups at the beginning - Pacific Colisseum in 1996, Live 10, volume 3.

The best version in my opinion..."For Neil Lottridge"...you can hear it on the museum unreleased song page...

Nor sure of the show, but I found some info on Neil from the hipstories...1995 I think

"Hey, I just wanted everyone to know... my friend Neil. Neil Lottridge was an awesome guy. We hung out everyday for years. In fact, I lived with the Lottridge family for a while. Hi Steve, Hi Leanne. Mr. (Brian) and Mrs. (Marilyn) Lottridge. I hope everyone is doing good. Neil, in 1996, was unfortunate enough to be in a serious motorcycle accident. He was 20 years old. The accident left Neil as a quadrapalegic. He had to undergo serious rehabilitation, and did so in Denver, Colorado later that year. While in rehab, Neil suffered greatly and wanted to give up many times. Neil's favourite band was (of course) The Hip. He listened to them religiously. Somehow, I think via email, The Hip heard of Neil's predicament and while in Denver for a show went to visit Neil in the hospital. This I believe gave Neil strength (I mean who woundn't be so excited to meet The Hip). Combined with the love of his great family, good freinds, and The Hip (especially Gord Sinclair, I believe that he kept in touch with Neil the most) Neil was strong enough to come home to Hamilton, ON. where he survived another 6 years. The greatest concert of my life was that night in Dec 1996 when I heard Gord Downie acknowledge my dear friend, Neil. I cried during the whole song "Ahead by a Century". If Neil had seen me (The Hip had brought him to hear the soundcheck and got him boxseats for the show, while Drew and I had floor seats) he would have called me a wuss.
The second greatest show I seen happened years later. I have since moved to Victoria B.C. The Hip were playing at the Royal Theatre (we snuck in and seen the show from first row, ssshhhhh). After the show we heard they were hanging out at Hugo's (a local watering hole) so we decided to check it out. Sure enough they were there. It was here that I was able to thank them. While speaking with Mr. Sinclair, I mentioned Neil and how I thought that he had helped Neil so much by being a freind to him. He then told me that he was happy to see one of Neil's friends keeping his memory alive and that it was an honour to meet me. I stared blankly at him for a brief moment. This was my all time favourite music idol telling me that it was an honour to meet me. I chuckled to myself and all I could say was "Thanks".
This is why The Tragically Hip are my favourite band, because they are people too. They are just like you and me. There are no big heads, no superstar ego. They are real. My experiences with The Hip go way back (so many concerts, so little time) but those two nights are unforgettable as is my friend, Neil. You are in my thoughts and in my heart. I miss you. Take 'er easy, and if she's easy, take 'er twice. Rest in Peace."

Yeah it prob is the best version... Crazy story about Neil.

I used to have a copy of that version somewhere, I still cant find it.

Can you tell me where you found this info? I went to school with Neil and was a pall bearer at his funeral in March of 2001. The live version of Ahead by Century quoted above was played at Neil's funeral. I have both audio and video of the performance. Would love to see if there is already content uploaded to the web somewhere. Thanks

July 20, 1996 - Fox Theatre in Boulder, CO. FM quality boot, from a radio broadcast. Easily the definitive version of Hiccups. The full show was one of the first I remember being available in MP3 format (but that could just be a poor memory on my part).

I was obsessed by Hiccups for a while. Then they played Daredevil Reprise to start this current tour. And I was more obsessed with Hiccups, and so I went to the Museum After Dark and read and re-read the lyrics and listened to the MP3 and obsessed some more about Hiccups.

... Then ... Last weekend in the fit of Hip fever, I iTunesed the Live from the Vaults that I didn't have. 2 and 3. Had never gotten around to buying them, but jonesing for live Hip, I shelled out the iTunes prices for these.

I listened to 2 and it was great.

And then I listened to 3 ... And there it was ... In full glory ... it just said "Daredevil" in the track listing, but it started with the slow burning groove and I started singing Hiccups in my head and then .... Ohmigod ... Hiccups. Gord started singing Hiccups, a full glorious live version of Hiccups, right there, waiting for me all this time. Just then out of nowhere, it appeared.

Great surprise, I was floored when they started playing it the 24th in Van (one of a plethora of highlights). Gords bass line is so sweet on this song, really gives the boys a chance to air out some great flow on top to set up the big plunge into Daredevil.

Live From the Vault 3 is a Halifax show???? They didn't play Daredevil. I'm confused.

It's Live 10, Volume 3 -- the compilations on iTunes.

Wish they'd bring back Live from the Vault.....

Maybe it was from the Live 10 series they did? 10 different live tracks from different shows....going to have to dig those up myself!

I went back and listened to that as well -- I forgot about halfway through, in your right ear all the sudden there's a guy saying "hey, this is really cool." Always made me wonder the source of the recording.
