Canadian Election - Hipbase Style - mojo_mattv - 04-11-2011

Figured we needed a place to debate the upcoming election. Included all parties registered with Election Canada in case there's any outsider votes on the base.

Well, I'm voting Green for the first time federally. I normally vote Liberal but I'm in Elizabeth May's riding and she has the best chance of taking the seat from the Conservative Party (but still unlikely).

Re: Canadian Election - Hipbase Style - thebends - 04-12-2011

It would be nice to see the Greens get at least one seat, and if I lived in May's riding I would definitely give her my vote. The dilemma for me is that while I have little desire to vote Liberal I don't think I can tolerate another Conservative government, and therefore may have to vote strategically for Iggy. This is very frustrating because a strategic vote does not represent one's true political orientation, and in fact may undermine the fundamental principles of our freedom and right to vote. I'm looking forward to the debates, especially in light of recent events relating to G20\G8 spending, and the Auditor General’s lashing of the Conservative "cut'n paste ninja" tactics.

Conservatives are the least horrible of the bunch. I'm not 100% sure I'll vote but I'll probably go to the polls and vote Blue. The last thing this country needs is another Conservative minority gov't with half-assed coalition attempts.

Re: Canadian Election - Hipbase Style - fingernailsonhull - 04-12-2011

Yeah. I'm definitely a fiscal conservative, so Blue is typically my thing. Could never, ever bring myself to vote NDP. The Tories make me shudder sometimes on some of their social stuff but I'm not particularly fond of Liberal social policy either. I'm in Rona Ambrose's riding. Not sure whom I'm voting for yet.

Re: Canadian Election - Hipbase Style - HandsInTheRiver41 - 04-13-2011

Wow, I don't consider myself as being that far left, but I have a hard time understanding why anyone would vote Conservative after this term.

Re: Canadian Election - Hipbase Style - fingernailsonhull - 04-13-2011

Yeah, I understand that sentiment. I'm only 27 but I've already learned that lying is par for the course. The Liberals lie. The Tories lie. The NDP lie. The question I have to ask is which liar do I trust more? Weird question, right? It comes down to Harper or Ignatieff and I'm just not sure.

Re: Canadian Election - Hipbase Style - ashtrayrock - 04-14-2011

i am definitely not a fan of harper

prorogue government
war planes
no drugs for seniors
more jails & people in jail
mandatory minimums

those are my main issues with him

for people on the fence please think about what you can do to not let him get a majority
vote green party if you have to!!! whomever has the best chance to win in your riding(other than conservative)

MAJORITY GOVERNMENT FOR STEPHEN HARPER AND THE CONSERVATIVES ! !!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Canadians got it RIGHT this time! :jump :jump :jump Seeing Iggy and his stooges get whipped and the BQ squashed was a huge bonus! :jump The only unfortunate part of this for me is that Islanders voted three MPs from a third place party into office. Quite sad.

I think your first sentence is the real sad part.

Elections results turned out pretty much as expected, but I am more than ecstatic about Elizabeth May winning a seat here.

Re: Canadian Election - Hipbase Style - ryan93 - 05-04-2011

I like the results from our Hipbase election much better...

Re: Canadian Election - Hipbase Style - VioletlightHeron - 05-05-2011

I find it interesting that there were no NDP votes on the Hipbase poll yet the Dippers smacked the Liberals and the Bloc like a red-headed stepchild. But I suspect the Liberals will come back once they find a leader more coherent and likeable than Iggy.

Edit: I misread the poll, there was one NDP voter lurking here, my bad

Re: Canadian Election - Hipbase Style - fingernailsonhull - 05-05-2011

Not to mention how fickle Quebec voters seems to be right now. Last election they gave quite a few seats to the Tories. This year they swing and give most of the province to the NDP. In four years, I'm guessing the BQ will show back up in Quebec. It will be interesting to see how the Liberals decide to attempt to rebuild. Rae? Trudeau? Someone else? How do they rebuild their reputation if they're not even the Opposition?
