The National - Joe - 08-08-2010

Drove 7 hours to see these guys in Minneapolis on Friday and it was the best live show I have seen in my entire life (maybe with the exeption of Neil in '08 and Radiohead in '08.)

They did an unreal version of Available that led into part 2 of Cardinal Song and it was the single greatest thing I have ever seen, and a version of Squalor Victoria that would rip the skin from your bones.

Go see them now.

Re: The National - srb - 08-08-2010

Saw them in 2008 opening for R.E.M. Fantastic live band.

Re: The National - direwolf74 - 08-08-2010

You lucky bastard! I've heard nothing but excellent things about their live show. Sadly they never seem to come anywhere near Calgary (unless you count Vancouver). I'll catch them one of these days. I may have to do what you did and travel somewhere to see them.

Re: The National - The Heron Outside - 08-08-2010

Saw them at a dank little club in Istanbul almost three years ago. It was goddamned incredible. They also ripped the shit out of the mainstage at Sasquatch this year. For a band that is supposedly rather "Brooding," they've got a pretty epic sense of how to do things onstage.

Re: The National - daylight - 08-09-2010

I saw them last week in Detroit and they were similarly fantastic.

Shame I didn't notice this topic until today - their Lollapalooza set was webcast last night. It was a gooder!

Bonnaroo recording.

Brooklyn Academy of Music recording.

Re: The National - Phantom51 - 08-09-2010

They are at Austin City Limits this year so I will check them out, although I have to say I find there music pretty boring. I will have to give it a few more tries!!

Re: The National - HandsInTheRiver41 - 08-09-2010

Seen them 4 times but super excited to see them in support of their new album in September. They're playing outdoors at Stanley Park in Vancouver, and the Walkmen are opening.

What I'm trying to say is, best band.
