"Fighter Fighter" Studio Recording for Next Album (Campaign) -
mrsardo - 12-14-2009
I've only heard this song live once, in 2003 or 2004 when the Hip were rehearsing some material for IBE as the fictional band THE FIGHTER FIGHTERS.
The song Fighter Fighter is pretty decent, has single-potential even - and gets stuck in my head alot, especially when
I've watching coverage of hockey fights - but has never been released, even as some kind of bonus track.
I'm betting on the next Hip album being IBE-esque, that is, rock/alt-country sounding with minimal studio trickery... a straight-ahead throw-back rock album, if you will (seems like the kind of left-turn the guys would take after two very-produced albums) - this of course assuming there isn't a Gord solo album released before the next Hip album, an eventuality which would shake up the dynamic I have in mind... Anyhoo... Just wanted to exclaim my love for this track. Here's hoping it has a future (especally for francophone fans, for those familiar with the lyrics).

I know where you're coming from, but I'd personally prefer a fresh round of all new tracks. As Gord said himself, why produce the B-sides, when they are still willing and able to create new A sides?!

I'm still holding out for a B-sides release one day.
Love to hear Fighter Fighter on that (and Blonde Solid and Montreal, etc, etc).
But I'm hoping the next album is all new stuff.

Fresh or not, Fighter Fighter has "A-side" potential!

There was at that video on thehip.com back in the WC days when Gord played Pretend and part of Fighter Fighter acoustically. Maybe it will be held off for his solo work in the year to come. Pretend probably should have appeared on it too IMO.

I don't know how to find it on the new version of the site, but if you go here...

... select the "Live" playlist, then cycle forward to "Pretend and Fighter," you can still watch it. Great video.

"Many" say that alot of We Are the Same sounds more like Gord's solo work than the Hip - Last Recluse and Coffee Girl especially. I think it's the result of Gord pushing the band to do new things, things that he's personally interested in, like mellow songs with organs and horns. As a result, I'm equally syked for the next Gord album and the next Hip album (god-willing).

Thanks for that link.
Now if someone could point out where I could re-listen to Downie in the Motel room playing Springtime...

Why, are you looking for an excuse to go to the bathroom in your own home?
Zing....

Over my head....
You're thinking of the Salmon Fest video MAv posted in 2005 (or maybe 2006). Awesome Springtime rendition among other clips!

The joke is that Springtime is a bathroom song live. So, if you're listening to it in your home, it's time to go to the bathroom.
My $0.02.

Ah - thank you. I had no clue.
And it is funny finding out what songs people like/dislike.
Springtime is definitely in my top ten live - probably even top 5.

I never like the song on the Album, but it grew on me after seeing it performed live. Same thing for It's a Good Life.

Ha, see what I mean about songs people like?
I totally do not get 'Good Life' on record or live
