Trying to find OLD Tour Dates! - LisaSeattle - 06-17-2009

Hi! I'm all fired up for a great night at the Moore in Seattle tonight!! Front row/dead center seats!!! Smile I was looking at the archives on thehip.com for the first two shows I saw in 1990/91 and can't find them listed? Was I dreaming? Wink

First show was winter of 90/91 at a little club in Summerside, PEI called the Regent, used to be a movie theater and the floor was tilted :p Gord took me up on stage and sang Long Time Running to me! One of the highlight stories I've told a billion times!

Second show was in the spring/summer of 91 in Calgary at The Silver Dollar Action Center, I was 'sure' Gord would remember me... haha!!

I've seen them many times in between and am glad my husband enjoys the live shows as much as I do!! Anyone have any info on either of the above shows? Actual dates? I'm sure I was there!!

I've sent additions to the hip database of shows on several occasions but they have never been added

Re: Trying to find OLD Tour Dates! - srb - 06-17-2009

The old shows listed in thehip.com's archive were originally from a show archive hosted here at the hipbase. It was fan-compiled, based mostly on bootleg recordings, so if it's not listed, it's more likely that there was simply no known recording of it.

I know of 3 dates between Aug '91 and Nov. '92 that aren't listed in the archive.

Re: Trying to find OLD Tour Dates! - LisaSeattle - 06-17-2009

Thanks for the replies guys! I had a few cocktails... but I'm sure I was there!!

The 'experience' at The Regent in Summerside was one I'll never forget! Road Apples was just released and the venue was great! Small maybe 500 or so people. The main floor by the stage was slanted as it used to be a movie theater Smile the guys were just talking back and forth between songs. I had a cigarette in one hand and a gin & tonic in the other, I went up to the stage to ask Gord to do Long Time Running and just as I got his attention and he was headed back to the mic... the band started playing LTR Smile Gord leaned down and I told him he telepathically got my request Smile

He reached down and grabbed me under the arms, took me up on stage, sat me on an amp and took my cigarette back to the mic to start the song... looking over at me while he was singing! A (HuGe) bouncer came over and screamed at me "Hey! You! Get off the f**king stage"!! Gord paused mid line in the song, moved his head away from the mic and said to the bouncer "F**k off man, that's my wife" :p Then he came over and swapped my cigarette for my drink and took it back over to finish the song with.

I can't imagine how 'high' I was on that back when it happened... but it still takes me off the floor now to remember it! We're dead center - first row tonight at The Moore... perhaps I'll bring Gord a Thank You! card Wink

Lisa, that is truly a highlight!!! My highlight story was partying with them after the show at a little place in Seattle called "The Off Ramp". Think it was early 90's - right after Road Apples came out. I've seen them in Seattle about 10 times but after the last show in '06 or '07 I decided I am only going to Canadian shows where the fans know how to celebrate The Hip (I got asked to sit down by the chick behind me - unfortunately I would not comply and it got a little sketchy, funny but the same thing happened to me at a Madonna show in LA - what are these people doing at these shows?). I'm still trying to figure out how to add the shows I've been to also.

Re: Trying to find OLD Tour Dates! - LisaSeattle - 06-17-2009

Hey Grace!

The Offramp is now El Corazon Smile Pearl Jam actually did their first show there as Mookie Blaylock in 1990! I wasn't there... but wish I was!!

As far as sitting down @ shows goes... I can't understand? Being an 'ass' and ruining things for other people is one thing... enjoying your own space, at the seat you paid for IMO is quite another!

This will only be my husband's second Hip show and even without knowing the music, he really enjoyed the first one!

Is the following story you?

>>>>>>>>>>>
We drove up from Charlottetown and it seems going anywhere was a 'huge roadtrip'! (I think that comes from 'small town mentality'?) None of us had been to the Regent in Summerside nor had seen the Hip! The venue was very cool, very tiny used to be a movie theartre and was all slanted... that's okay... so were we :p

Many cocktails later the band takes the stage... we were blown away! Lots of room on the dance floor to actually 'dance'... I couldn't believe there were people staying in their seats?! I think a lot of people didn't make the show because the weather was bad?

Anyhoo... there was a lull between songs and in my drunken stupor I figured it'd be a good time to 'say hello' to the band :p I'm sure I was very attractive! Off I went double fisting rum & cokes and dragging on a cigarette. When I got to the stage the band just started the lead in to 'Long Time Running' ... that's what I was going to ask for! Gord came over to me and of course I was all 'ooohh... that's just what I wanted to hear... I LoVE it!'... He asked my name... asked if he could have a drag of my smoke... told me to 'hang on to my drinks' and picked me up and put me on the stage. I was of course... beaming... He sat me on an amp... gave me the cig back and took one of the cocktails... walked over to the mic... started singing the song... and turned and sang to ME! About half way through the song a big black bouncer came side stage and pointed at me and yelled "Get the Fuck off the Stage!" Gord stopped mid verse... looked at the guy and said "Fuck off man... that's my Wife!" :p and the crowd cheered... and in the tiny town of Summerside... I was famous :p

It really was a kick... I had people coming up to me for weeks saying... Hey... was that you on stage at the Hip show?

I moved to Calgary in March of '91 and saw them that spring at The Silver Dollar Action Center... I couldn't believe Gord didn't recognize me :p
haha...

That's TOO FUnny!!

I'm standing here LMAO... listening to Fully Completely... having a cocktail and getting ready to head to the Moore!

I was wondering earlier when I posted here how much my story 'morphed' through the years... ? Wink Looks like it's mostly the same except for the quantity and quality of my cocktails Big Grin

I'm still considering bringing Gord a Thank You note tonight!!

Big Grin

I So LOVE how the HIP brings out the Canadian! in me Tongue

Lisa, I believe that Summerside gig was in early April of 1990 or February 1991. Thehip.com lists the famous Misty Moon date in Halifax as April 6th, 1990. I believe it was the night before that I saw them for the very first time at The Warehouse in Moncton, NB. On that swing I'm certain they also played Mount Allison U in Sackville, NB and in Wolfville, NS at Acadia U.

However, I also saw them play The McInnis Room at Dalhousie U on back-to-back nights in Feb. '91, although for the life of me I cannot get anyone outside of the 300 people there each night to substantiate said shows. (Sidebar: They finished up night 2 with a 10 minute version of On The Verge that wound up SO FAST I was drenched in sweat and winded to the point of having to lie down for a few minutes to catch my breath. I also remember lining up for tickets to show 1 and after they counted the number of people in line they immediately said: "OK, tickets for show 1 are sold out, we're adding a 2nd show and the line starts here." Luckily we had a few guys there in order to get both shows. Good times, good times!) MAv, if you read this, I know you're VERY busy, but any chance you could slip a quick question in to the boys to see if they remember their 90/91 Maritime swings? Highly unlikely I realize.

Carry on.

Re: Trying to find OLD Tour Dates! - LisaSeattle - 06-19-2009

Hey Ikky...

I just saw this now... needless to say a little late for 'slipping questions' Smile I was lucky enough to be a few feet from the stage though and should really have brought Gord a Thank You note!

I LOVE that you had to 'catch your breath' due to Overwhelming Hip Attack!! That's what rock & roll is all about as far as I'm concerned!! I'm sorry to say that even though I very much enjoyed the show at the Moore... there was certainly no reason to lay down to revive myself :|

I saw the listing in the archives for the Misty Moon show (wish I would have been there!) and since I'm 100% sure (though my memory sucks) that I moved from PEI to Alberta in early March of '91 and the Summerside show was during a snowstorm the winter before I left.... It had to be between Nov '90 and February '91.
