Decent New Band - Kiings Of Leon - Stickboy - 10-03-2003

Just thought I'd see if there were any other hipfans that have picked up the new Kings of Leon disc Youth and Young Manhood...its their debut and its really good. Kind of a southern version of the strokes mixed with Stereophonics...in my opinion. Check out the tracks California Waiting and Red Morning Light if you are bored and looking for decent new tunes...oh and of course download Into Your Hideout by Pilate...new Canadian band

Let me know what you think

Pilate's album is quite good, very Coldplay-ish....very good....

Im trying to make it to the strokes show and kings of leon are opening - i will check out those tracks- pilate is great and are touring with the dears - another band is the weakerthans "our retired explorer" "plea from a cat named virtue" --- metric has a cool sound too- check out " IOU" &
"Combat Baby" .... anyone else have any other suggestions?

They're not new, but I can't get enough of Interpol's album from last year, "Turn On The Bright Lights". This album is simply phenomenal, no questions asked...few other new bands I'm digging...."Jet", "Tugboat Annie" and "Stars". Check 'em out! :thumb:

Kings of Leon are great...I love their album. There're very few misses and a whole lotta hits. A great moment in modern-day heavy southern rock...great ballsy punk-ish blues rock with some liberal sprinklings of 60s psychedelia and R.E.M. jangliness!

WoW,i gotta check these boys out...what are they called? Kings of Leon? i seen another spelling as well ,the first post spelt them another way.... where they from come?

Kings of Leon etc. - Stickboy - 10-05-2003

Yeah, sorry I had a little typing stutter going there and spelt their name wrong. Heron, I agree about Interpol, that album rules...About Pilate I am going to check them out with the Dears in Calgary on the 24th of October, so I am pretty stoked about that...and Jet, Stars and Metric, I'll be sure to check out some tracks of theirs as well...if ever you hear about/listen to some new band that you find pretty good, give us a post, I am always looking for some new stuff!

OK, well how about the Trews? They supported Big Sugar on their most recent tour, although I didn't get to see them (a truly awful band called Human opened for BS)...but I like the single I heard on MuchMoreMusic and I downloaded one other song...very good rock and roll, along the lines of Kings of Leon.

By the way, S...Kings of Leon are British, but like Mark Knopfler, you'd swear they weren't British and had come from the backwaters of Alabama. Great fast-paced guitar rock. I highly recommend!

Where'd you hear that they were British? I don't know a lot about them but I was checking out some songs and looking at thier website the other day. This is right from the bio section on thier site:
"Kings of Leon are a young rock band from Tennessee. "

Intresting story of them growing up. And from what I've heard they sound pretty good.

Another southern band I've been listening to lately is the Driveby Truckers. Cool stuff. :thumb:

Where did everyone pick up their copies of Kings of leon?is it a self titled album,is this their first effort? Confusedcratch:

Summiteer: The album is called "Youth and Young Manhood", and it is their first. Gotta admit, I didn't buy it, I downloaded it. Haven't had a job in ages, couldn't afford it. Sad

About the British thing...in the very first review of their album that I read, which made me want to find out more about them right away, it said they were from England. I had never been to their website, so I guess you're right. Sorry for the confusion...I never bothered to check my source!
