Tour 2009 Statistics - hotmetal401 - 04-28-2009

Okay here we go. Check this thread after every show (either within minutes, hours or days - depending solely on my work schedule, if I'm at the show, on a date, saving the world, etc.) for an update of the following:

1.Setlist (with sets and encore divided this way)
2.Acoustic tracks (in italics)
3.Song debuts (bolded)
4.Repeats (multi-night stands only).

The idea is perhaps to begin creating a fuller Tragically Hip setlist archive, perhaps even based on this: http://dmbalmanac.com/ (although their rarity index might be a tad beyond my liberal arts degree grasp).

Also, as a sidebar, does the setlist archive for this site still exist?

Here we go. Have fun everyone.

Cheers,

Pat

Re: Tour 2009 Statistics - Gibson - 04-29-2009

Just curious. Why is it "1 of 1" and "3 of 3" ??

Wouldn't it make sense to drop the "of X?" As in "Queen Furrows - 1"

OR the # of times played OF # of shows... ie) :Queen Furrows 1 of 3?"

I'm just a little confused.

Re: Tour 2009 Statistics - hotmetal401 - 04-29-2009

The numbers are specific to each song played, not the number of shows. It will look cleaner at the end of the tour, trust me. The totals after each song are number of times played on this tour "to date."

So far, Depression Suite has been played three times. Therefore night was 3 of 3. If they play it tonight, it'll be 4 of 4. If there are 50 shows and they play it 45 times, the last entry will say 45 of 45.

A grander plan is to present this online at the end of the tour which the numbering will look a lot better, with all sorts of gizmos, gadgets, etc. This is a work in progress, to keep interest peaked for those who are here refreshing the setlists and the casual viewer who comes by after his/her show and says "Wow, that was the first time they played Everytime You Go this tour?!?!" (a boy can dream right?)

I'm open to suggestions as we move along, or volunteers to really make this in depth in ways I might not have thought of. This is really an exercise I'm doing to keep my sanity for the shows I'm missing and to keep from going stir crazy at home most nights.

Cheers,

Pat

Pat: my suggestion would be to put the total shows of the tour as the bottom number of your totals. Your example of "if there are 50 shows and they play it 45 times" would make more sense (at least to me) if the end number at the end of the tour would be 45/50, not 45/45.

Unless you can see a problem with my logic?

Trevor, you're absolutely right. That second number provides us no additional information at all.

I have mentioned before that I will create something in this area and I will - though I am not sure my version will be the same as your version. etc. I will see what I can come up with as well.

Re: Tour 2009 Statistics - boot - 04-29-2009

I think I see where Pat's going...

At the end of the tour, you bring up the Set List for Apr 29th in Kitchener, and it says :

The Depression Suite - 3 of 45
Flamenco - 3 of 3

So... now I know that on the tour of X number of shows, they played depression suite at 45 of them. The show I was at - it was the 3rd time they played it. The numbers beside Flamenco tell me they only played that song 3 times, and this show was the last time they played it.

I'm not sure of the utility of this, but it's an interesting view....

Whichever way you're trying to do this, Pat, I like the idea. :thumb:

This is last night's setlist from the DMB show in Georgia. Under the tour slot, it gives "# of times played up to this show out of the total of times played in the entire tour," which is what I'm getting at with the numbering here. I just find it an easy way to keep count as I go along as to how many times something is played. The almanac automatically updates past shows as it goes along, which I think is where some of the confusion is coming in here. I'm not doing that (yet - let's see how much time I want to spend at the office this spring and things may change)

That said, come the fall when this tour (conceivably) ends, the master list of shows could look like this, for example:

April 24 - Toronto

The Depression Suite 1 of 45
In View 1 of 50
Fireworks 1 of 34

June 27 - Wiarton

The Depression Suite 15 of 45
In View 20 of 50
Fireworks 12 of 34

Sept 30 - The Hammer

The Depression Suite 43 of 45
In View 47 of 50
Fireworks 34 of 34.

And so on... Whereas at the time of each show, it will look more like this

April 24 - Toronto

The Depression Suite 1 of 1
In View 1 of 1
Fireworks 1 of 1

June 27 - Wiarton

The Depression Suite 15 of 15
In View 20 of 20
Fireworks 12 of 12

Sept 30 - The Hammer

The Depression Suite 43 of 43
In View 47 of 47
Fireworks 34 of 34.

And as a sidebar, that looks like a crazy DMB set from last night.

Regardless, thanks for the feedback and thumbs up. I'm plan to keep doing this in a timely fashion (evening of/morning after show) throughout the tour (you know, unless I throw it all away and move to Korea in the next week - stranger things have happened).

Cheers,

Pat

Re: Tour 2009 Statistics - hotmetal401 - 04-30-2009

Kitchener night three coming as soon as set two's order (and whether or not Don't Wake Daddy was played) is confirmed.
