Great Gordon Lightfoot interview on Radio 2 Drive with Jian Ghomeshi. Lightfoot mentions how one of his favorite covers of one of his songs is Black Day in July by Gordon Downie and The Tragically Hip. 39 minute mark (and the song is played).

The Hip did Black Day In July last tour in Detroit as part of night #1's encore! Stellar version.....

I hate to ramble but my buddy won a radio contest that put him and I at the Hips soundcheck that night. We got to meet the band but the best part was watching the guys work out all the tunes they were going to play that night including Black Day.... Gord D kept sending the tour manager to the laptop for lyrics!! :thumb:

Today in why you use the search feature on message boards: this topic.

I was coming in here tonight thinking I had some new info. I was covering an event with Gordon Lightfoot today in Orillia where he mentioned how great The Hip's version of Black Day in July was. His words were to the effect of "you know who plays the devil out of that tune?"

Given that the interview was with Jian (who I didn't get along with long before how hideous of human being he actually is came out), it's no surprise that I hadn't heard this praise before.

Easily one of my favorite cover songs of all time. They really make it their own.

No, thank God. Sorry for the confusion. The original post was in reference to an interview Jian did in 2009. You know, back when he was still just as big of a creep, but no one really talked about it.
