No Hip at The Ottawa Blues Festival -
JT_Stone - 04-22-2009
I am shocked to say the least, The Hip have been left off the Ottawa Blues Festival lineup. On July 2 2009 they will be in St. John's why not play one week later July 9th at the blues festival? Makes no sense to me at all.

They're playing three nights in Ottawa just two months after BluesFest -- skipping bluesfest makes sense to me. I would have been suprised to see them on the bill. Plus they were a headliner two of the past three years (or maybe two of the past four?).
None of the Bluesfest headliners really grabbed my attention, but some good secondary stage acts -- Neko Case, The National, Hey Rosetta, Jenn Grant.

Speaking of those 3 nights I will be in attendance, the 26th is my 27th B-day. I was sure an outdoor show was in order..
WATS is better suited for a blues festival than WC ever was. Last year they played a greatest hits show a typical Hip "rock show" in an out door venue. It would be great to see a down tempo blues type performance in the outdoors after the 6 indoor shows I'm attending.

Not a bad lineup, Iron and Wine, Blue Rodeo, Okkervil River, Les Claypool, Xavier Rudd, Jill Barber, The Stills and even the Skydiggers. Sure, it's not top heavy on main acts (Ben Harper, STP, Live...Styx, the Yardbirds), but the secondary acts are enough to make me wish I still lived in Ottawa. I've always felt they've been able to attract quality bands and songwriters...
The primary festival in Paris last year was headlined by REM and Amy Winehouse and Winehouse didn't show up.

I don't live in Ottawa and never have. I only travel there for the Blues Festival & a weekend of bungee jumping. Without anyone (Artist) worthy of the travel to Ottawa it looks like I'm going west for the summer.
Has anyone ever dreamed of having a one day outdoor show with only three acts. Opener would be Rush followed by The Hip and last but not least Neil young? Now there a real Canadian Music festival.....
