I came across this link on the Pearl Jam message board the other day, and I thought some of you might enjoy it. Tom Waits- VH1 Storytellers, The entire show. Get it before it's gone!

Who is Tom Waits?? Seriously.

Would I know 1 of his songs?? Is he one of those "oh...that's who sings that song" guys??

Sadly, the song you might most recognize is a cheesy one by Waitsian standards --"Downtown Train" -- and was made ten times cheesier by the "artist" who covered it and made it "popular" (Rod Stewart).

You might also recognize "Ol' 55" (it was also covered by several acts, namely the Eagles).

But suffice it to say that these songs do not even begin to characterize the range and bulk of his work.

He's arguably the greatest living American songwriter. Right up there with Dylan and Springsteen in my opinion.

I agree most Waits covers don't do the man justice, but there are a few good ones out there. Eddie Vedder does a gorgeous version of "Picture in a Frame" on Pearl Jam's live in Italy DVD.
