Pay extra for an iPod, get access to iTunes for free is the rumour.

Interesting concept / business model to say the least if this is true.

Hardly new. Other services have been trying this for years, with limited (if any) success.

Quite simply, consumers want to "own" their music.

I think it is still your music isn't it, it is on your ipod, you don't have to return it. Am I wrong?

I like the monthly fee and you can get anything you want idea, I could make great use of that.

As soon as you stop paying, you no longer have access to the music.

I like how people equate paying a fee for access to "getting music for free."

Consumers, it turns out, are pretty easy to dupe.

I'd say that soon after Apple got the world nodding along to a subscription-based plan of this kind, we'd find all the music switching over to a proprietary format that will only play on Apple products ... after a few years, you realize that if you buy anyone else's player, you're starting from scratch.

Apple is the new Microsoft.
