According to guitar.com this is the top ten of best guitar players ever:

Of course i think i know better and disagree. I think Rory Gallagher, Santana, Mick Taylor and Jeff Beck should be in the top ten, and i really don't understand why Keith Richards is in the top ten. I'd like to know who, in your opinion, is the best guitar player ever. I'm aware that the answer "someone else" will get a lot of votes but i'd like to know anyway.

Randy Rhoads (1956-1982)
He had the greatest influence on how the guitar was played in the shortest amount of time. IMO, his style is still years ahead of many of the guitarists I've heard up to now, as it was 20+ years ago.

this is so very difficult... One of the greatest in my opinion is Jan Akkerman. "He raised the technical and interpretative level of guitar playing to a realm equal to the most severe classical players and he influenced an entire generation of guitarists"

How about Peter Green!
I saw him in July with his Splinter Group, at the Ottawa Bluesfest. Its great that he's back out there, making music, but he just can't do what he used to do.
None the less, the music he made in the late 60s and early 70s with the Bluesbreakers, and his own band, Fleetwood Mac (the original blues super group, not the Stevie Nicks pop band that they became without him), was killer!
Beat, I agree that Santana is great, but everyone should hear the guy who actually wrote Black Magic Woman play that song. I urge anyone to check out some early Peter Green and his Fleetwood Mac.
P.S. I actually voted for Stevie Ray Vaughn, because it blows me away to hear some of the things he did with a guitar, but I've got a lot of favourites/heros!
P.P.S. I'm so glad that Daune Allman came in second, only behind Hendrix, in the Rolling Stone list. He doesn't get half the credit that he deserves. Why do so many great ones die so young?

It's such a tough question to answer cause each has a different style. I went with Jimi though. The man lived with his guitar, went with him everywhere. Amazing work.
Also, where's Jimmy Page??? Another outstanding player. The guy pisses me off constantly. Trying to figure out how to play some of those songs like Bron-Y-Aur Stomp!! and White Summer!!

How about Willie Nelson, Buckethead, Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes, Michael Hedges, Brian Hennman.
This is a difficult question because you can argue just about any one that has been submitted and it all depends on the music that the submitter has more passion about.
