Maclean's is basically Canada's version of Time... our country's most well-known news magazine. Not too long ago a different publisher and editor took over the magazine and was "accused" of bringing a more conservative slant to the magazine, though you may not know it from the picture. And that's a relative term anyway, as what is considered politically conservative here probably wouldn't pass muster with so-called real conservatives in the US.

Anyway, I have to say, that's a very interesting picture. Sure does make me wonder if the actual reports of what's going on are as bad as the picture is trying to represent that it is.

Oh, please. Just look at the columnists he brought on board, and tell me that was a groundless accusation.

Macleans, like all weekly newsmagazines, is struggling to maintain circulation. For the past year or two, they've deliberately courted controversy in an effort to win new readership. That cover is designed to do just that.

I Love MacLeans. Good reading material.
Then again, I'm a Liberal, so I would find some of their more anti-Conservative articles worth reading

And yet what is more telling about the institutional ideology of mainstream media than an accusation that Maclean's is "slanted" in favor of conservative thought. It seems to me that the powers that be in mainstream media companies think that writing articles from a liberal/left perspective is perfectly normal and acceptable. God forbid if a conservative perspective is sympathetically covered, heads would fly! :roll:

Right, like Canada doesn't have the National Post or the Globe and Mail to report from a fundamentally conservative perspective. That would be the only two national newspapers in the country.

Nobody's suggesting heads should roll. It's a simple fact that all media is biased in one way or another. Observing that Macleans has moved farther right since Kenneth Whyte moved in is simply recognizing a fact.

MacLeans should be commended for having the courage to print an article in the main stream media addressing the reality of the war. I hope this signals a shift in the global zeitgeist regarding American foreign policy and this illegal war.

MacLeans could pushed it even furer, oops, further and write about Bush and his connections to the Nazis, The Carlyle Group and the Bin Laden family. The cover would look something like this...

Bingo, Skippy.

Some of my American compadres down here were asking me about this (the story was covered briefly on Fox News). I replied that it's a marketing scheme - it's intentionally sensational. Nothing more, nothing less.

To pretend that any news is reported in an "objective" manner is to fool yourself. Recognizing that biases are everywhere (which isn't necessarily a bad thing) is just a part of gathering information.
