fourteen men broke loose in seventy-two - laliber - 08-08-2007

Found this looking for something else the other day…

The Globe and Mail July 11 1972

Fourteen prisoners – most of them classified as dangerous escaped from Millhaven Maximum Security Penitentiary during the recreation period last night after cutting holes in the fence around the complex and crawling under barbed wire.

Mel Willard, assistant director, said the holes were discovered after a bus carrying visiting baseball players had left

Among the escapers was Thomas McCauley, serving a lengthy term for robbery with violence, who made history at the penitentiary by escaping last fall using a similar method.

Mr. Willard said 20 to 30 prison officers had been sent into the bush northwest of the prison, 13 miles west of Kingston, to try to round up the inmates. They had been ably to find the cutting tool used to put the holes I the fence.

He identified the other inmates missing as Sereto Dezambas, Gaston Lambert, Gerald Laroque, Ronald Filion, Richard Smith, William Yardley, Edward Woods, Charles Bulmer, Rodolph Nuss, Donald Oag, Thomas Smith, John Taylor and Robert Clark.

no long french names? :?

Well, it's the towns that are suppose to have long French names.

I've heard (read?) that the only true thing about 38 Years Old was the first couple of lines. Good writers never let the truth get in the way of a good story. "73" and "security" just roll off the tongue.

Cheers,

Pat
