I'm planning on attending my first Hip concert this september (2007/9/11). I own Fully Completely plus Phantom Power and all the albums following it. I also have That Night in Toronto.
Those albums have made my appreciate the hip's recordings greatly, but I'm unsure about their live appearances. The adage "Great Band, Lousy Crowd" is making me a wee bit nervous, too.
In short, what should I expect at a hip concert?

I had all of the bands CDs but never seen them live.
Then in 2004 went to see them for the first time on Canada day at the Molson Ampitheatre and they are even better live.Hopefully Gord Downie will be at his animated best.

me too, i'll be seeing them at the London (UK) show. i personally cannot wait to see them live. i must have watched "that night in toronto" 50 times. i've seen footage on youtube as well and it all looks great.

since it's my first show i'd really like to hear "nautical disaster" and "courage" live, but i can't image being disappointed if they don't.

It is going to blow you outta the water, not sure what the crowds will be like in London, but they will be better than the Fort Mac crowd so you should enjoy it! It will be a life changing experience mark my words.

Just remember, YOU ARE NOT PREPARED! :lol:

As for the bad crowd comments I mostly disregard them. Often they come from the beer crowd who like to get drunk and yell the entire show. I've been to 16 shows now and I might bob my head and tap my foot but I don't yell and scream. Does that make me a bad fan? Of course not. I tend to fixate on the music and whats happening on stage rather than pissing off the people around me.

Don't worry.
The crowd in London will be anything but lousy.
I was at the London show last year and I met alot of really nice people.

It's a shame you didn't make to the London show last year - I was hoping for those two tracks, and I wasn't disappointed. I think I almost wore my voice box out singing along to Nautical Disaster! 8) :lol:

I reckon the Astoria's going be fantastic. :thumb:

I guarantee you'll have fun. Forget about the Captain Canada drunkards around you and just focus on the band.

Aye, if you get a chance to meet some of the lads who tape the shows it's well worth it. Very helpful, friendly people to a man!
