Any Astronomy Fans? (moon pictures) - HIPpyLettuce - 08-04-2003

I took these pictures about 30 minute ago from Vernon BC, Canada. There are major forest fires in this area so on a clean night these could be even clearer.

I took them using my Celeston telescope and my Cannon Powershot A60 2.0 Megapixel digital camera.

The telescope is an entry level scope purchased as Serius Science Center (I think they have have gone completely out of business now, at least around here).

The camera being a 2.0 megapixel is also an entry level peice. The highest MP camera is/was 5 megapixel, I added 'was' because technology changes so fast there's liable to be a better one before I'm done posting Confusedhock:

I took the pictures, (all you real astronomy fans will love this), by focusing in on the Moon and then sticking the camera up to the view finder! lol, not the most professional aproach but I think they turned out pretty damn good considering.

enjoy!

I think once it gets a bit darker out I'll try a few more.. doh, just looked out the window and its already darker! better go snap a few more before it heads below the hills.

cheers.

wooooooooooow....

I read last week that planet Mars will be closer to earth this month as ever before. They hope for a little bit cloudy night, because this will be better for the visibility of the red planet. (27th of August)

And another chance to see a lot of shooting stars when earth moves through the Perseid meteors in the night of August 12 - 13... It's a pity.. just one day after full moon

Cool shots Lettuce. Im an amateur astronomer as a hobby. I take pics through my scope all the time. The latest cheap craze is using a webcam and then stacking the images to improve the image. Works well and with Mars coming to opposition later this month, gives everyone a chance to get some great shots

thanks, I was actually shocked it worked lol! Its not like I had some special mount for the camera, I just pressed it up to the view piece of the telescope.
