Hey folks...anyone else ever wonder why The Hip have never dabbled in covers during their lives shows from the past few years? We've seen GD do some this year, maybe due to lack of material to play live, but still entertaining nonetheless. So let's hear it! What covers does everyone think The Hip would sound good doing live? I'll get the ball rolling, suggesting the obvious, Closer To The Heart by Rush. Hearing it live shows a great oppurtunity for a great jam filled with whatever GD could come up with, and it would obviously be a fitting tribute to "the mighty Rush" as The Hip call them. Let's hear what everyone thinks!

I've always wanted to see the hip do some covers. I'd love to see them do a Neil Young song or two. COrtez the Killer would be a great oppertunity for a jam or Down by the River. With all the Boss refrences in the lyrics I'd also love to see them do a cover of a Springsteen tune.

They have done a few 'covers' in thier jams during NOIS and 100th but I think mostly it's just Gord throwing in some lyrics and not really a cover.

Anyway, I'd love to see some covers.

The only one I can remember the Hip doing is Seven Days by Bob Dylan.

I know they used to do a cover of a Yardbirds tune called "Train Kept a Rollin' " and I know I've heard them do "Sweet Jane" on an ooooold bootleg. Can't remember which one at the moment.

They used to do quite a few back when they didn't have as much of their own material.

I think if they were to do a cover you could count on it to be an obscure one during a mid song jam.

I really would'nt want to hear any covers at all considering how many good songs of their own that they dont play, Especially the setlists that were pretty consistent on the past tour ... Not to say i dont like the cool lyrics thrown in sometimes in the middle or end of some tunes.... One that sticks out is at the 1998-12-12 - Modjeska Theatre - Milwaukee, WI .. Emperor Penguin at the end Gord throws in a couple lines from Paul Mcacartneys "Jet" fits nicely and The Stampeders "Sweet city woman" during bobcaygeon(98-08-12 bills bar) althou its just for a line during the end of the song - it sounds like it would fit and when i hear the song thats what i think of.... Anyway i'm sure a couple you already know this...

the hip have done a ton of covers (although mainly in their early days). have a look at shows like 07-15-88 and that era. suzie q was played as well as others

On the obscure front, I remember an old MuchMusic special on 54.40 in which they showed an all-too-brief snippit of the Hip in a recording studio doing a cover of "Baby Ran", in which Gordie completely butchers the words...on the screen it read "Baby Ran...sort of"...priceless...:lol:

I have to agree with royce...After hearing GD do "When You Dance..." and "Tonight's the Night" on his solo tour, I'd love to hear the band as a whole cover some other Neil Young classics (eg. Cinnamon Girl)...
