Match-up #23 - New Orleans Is Sinking Vs. World Container
I ask you to listen to the two songs in the match-up Back to Back, and consider the lyrics of the song. Feel free to post an unbiased analysis of both songs in this thread, but please refrain from cheerleading or making predictions for your favourites.

When I first saw this match-up I thought "Oh, thats easy, NOIS easily" but then I decided to listen to them both one more time. I gotta say, WC gave me a few more chills down my spine than I remember.
Although NOIS has tenure as one of the greatest Hip songs ever written, I think I have to go with WC this time.

I'm kinda sick of hearing NOIS live every single concert, but it's admitteingly a great song. It's also given us some great rants, such as Cookie Factory, and of course KillerWhaleTank.
At the same time, I LOVE the anti-Conservative (anti-Harper) theme behind WC....a great tune with great lyrics.
I might have to go with the one that got me hooked to the Hip though...

I beg you to consider how you'll feel in ten years from now...WC will hold up, and be looked back upon as a true CLASSIC

I totally agree, I don't think people will give WC a fair shake because it's new. I already like it way more than NOIS

I am very tired of this song today but it's the song that perked my ears up back in 1989.

I can respect WC for what it is, but let's be clear about one thing here: if "World Container" was the first TTH song I happened upon instead of NOIS, the world would most definitely be minus one devoted Hip Fan.

I will blame any morning grumpiness, morning breath and generally unflattering appearance on said parallel universe.
Seriously though, I agree. I *love* WC -- it is my favorite song on the entire album. However, it isn't NOIS. I'm sure some of you have grown tired of the song -- perhaps hearing it live for the better part of a decade and a half has lead some of you to become slightly complacent.
NOIS kicks ass any day of the week, in my opinion. As Esthete said, it is raw and gritty -- altogether fabulous.
