The worst First Pitch E-V-E-R. - The Horrible Esthete - 04-03-2007

Nowhere is Opening Day more special than in Cincinnati, where the event marks a virtual holiday for the entire city. Many leave work early (or neglect to go altogether) so they can celebrate and/or attend the first game of the season, which for Reds is ALWAYS a home game. The whole day is an event, as the game is preceded by a parade downtown, and parties rage on long after the last out is recorded.

So naturally, he who has the distict honor of throwing out the first pitch on such an important day (in this case, Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory), better not do this.

(Watch legendary ex-Red centerfielder Eric Davis give Mallory the 'stink eye' as he begrudgingly presents Mallory the ball as a souvenir after the debacle.....priceless....)

I don't know, she hasn't done any stretches beforehand, so she has certainly risked straining a muscle... or something..... I kind of forget after watching her walk there......

I thought every American man knew how to throw a baseball??? Didn't you perfect that skill shortly after you all learned how to fire a handgun???

Instead of throwing the "first pitch"you should just do something like we do in hockey and "drop" the ceremonial first puck...you have to be in advanced stage parkinsons not to be able to accomplish that skill. Having said that I'm pretty sure Mohommed Ali still could have thrown that pitch better than that sad sack.

Jiggles aside, I noticed that there was a batter who swung at her pitch. Do ceremonial first pitches actually count in Japan? That would add an interesting twist to things...

I think they just have the batter there for show, to make it more like a real pitch. Like in hockey, where you have the two captains take the ceremonial face off, instead of somone just dropping a puck at centre ice with no one around.

And about that Cincinnati mayor...you'd think one might consider practicing throwing a baseball before doing it in front of thousands of people. Especially if you're a public figure. Guaranteed that just cost him the next election. :lol:

Not to beat a dead horse or anything, but just for fun, I think I might support making the “first pitch” become the actual first pitch just to make it meaningful again. When I first started going to baseball games, I don’t even think they had a “first pitch” at every game. Now, they’ll let any local yay-hoo out there to make a fool of themselves. The only way that I’d be interested in watching the president of the local UAW-pipe fitters #404 send a three-bouncer to the plate is if Grady Sizemore has a chance to rocket it back into his crotch :thumb:
