10,000 Lakes Festival @ Soo Pass Ranch
The fifth annual 10,000 Lakes Festival returns to the picturesque lakes country of Minnesota's North Woods. Artists include The Tragically Hip, Trey Anastasio, Bob Weir & RatDog, Umphrey's McGee, moe., Gov't Mule, Zappa Plays Zappa, The Derek Trucks Band, The Disco Biscuits, Little Feat, Keller Williams, Particle & over fifty more acts on four stages all within easy walking distance of each other. The serene natural environment with reclaimed wetlands and lakeshore surrounding the camping and venue grounds provides the ultimate festival experience.

I smell a road trip coming on. It is going to be very difficult to get from Saskatoon down to Minnisota in one day but totally worth it.

I've done a bus trip to see the Jays play the Twins, and we did the trip in 17hrs. Get a few guys and take turns driving and it will go quicker than that.

I've made a couple of Regina to Minneapolis trips (Stones in 1989 & Hip in 2000)...it's about 13 hours if you push it, but Detroit Lakes is actually 3-4 hours this side of Minneapolis...IIRC, you only go about an hour past Fargo. Sounds like a fun road trip although I'm a little out of touch with some of the bands listed on the bill.
The only other fact I know about Detroit Lakes is that in summer (at least on the July 4th weekend) it is usually filled with bikinis...my older brother ended up camping their on his honeymoon about 15 years ago, and he recalls people wearinng T-shirts that read "Playboy's top 3 July 4th bikini spots...Daytona Beach...Malibu Beach...Detroit Lakes". Despite his urging I never made the trip down there!!!

Finally The Hip do a festival with the rest of my favorite bands! Bobby, Trey, Keller, moe., UM, the Mule, Derek Trucks. The kings of the jam band world. If musicianship gets you off, this is where you want to be. Northern Minnisota with the VW's and the hippies. A friendlier vibe cannot be found.
I have seen all these acts multiple times (Trey 60+ with Phish & solo) and it never gets tired. Improv and always new setlists. The Hip are a nice touch and I feel like two of my worlds are coming together.
If you want to check out any of the bands at 10klf most of them offer their concerts for free download or streaming at archive.org . This website is also home to oover 2800 Dead shows. Thanks Jerry! Check it out and encourage the hip to post their shows.

I am officially tempted to go. My friends have just started planning a road trip to Minneapolis in Mid-June.. Perhaps I could persuade them to make a quick pit-stop
. Just wondering how much a day pass is, and what day the Hip will be playing?
