Hello all.

So, I've known of the Hip for maybe about 7 years or so now, I remember some Canadian guy who was in the same 'galaxy' as me in an online game (I'm sounding cool aready right?) sent me a couple of songs to listen to (Poets, Scared, Nautical Disaster, Ahead by a Century). Well, I always liked those songs a lot, but that was it, never went any further until just recently. I got a bunch of albums. I started in order (a lot to choose from so . . .) with Up to Here, Road Apples and Fully Completely, and then also got Day for Night and Phantom Power (skipped Trouble at the Henhouse, but these two had songs I'd known/loved for a long while). I'm now pretty much in love with the band (and I'm hoping to spread this to friends, who unsurprisngly have never heard of them).

umm, anyway, to the point: Where next? I'm thinking I want another album. Trouble at the Henhouse maybe? But I hear opinion is quite divided on it? I've also heard World Container is great, and I've heard Luv (sic) which was awesome (imediately hit me, really great, powerful song). So what would you choose next?


And sorry if this thread is boring, I'm sure it's the kind of new-poster thread you see all the time.

Hello random English man! Welcome to Hipbase. 8)

Personally, If I were you I'd get Music @ Work or In violet Light next. Also, there's In Between Evolution which is also great. TATHH is pretty good, but I'd get the others first. World Container is also a very strong album.

Here is a pretty cool thread where another "newbie" gave his reviews of the albums.
Take a look at it, it has lots of opinions, and it is very recent.

TATH is a mainstay in anyones Hip collection. When TATH was released people found the music was different than past albums. True. But I think TATH was a creative album that was enevitable. And at that point their music had to evolve. And it did.

Now get out there and listen to TATH. My personal standouts include Gift Shop, Flamenco, SIV, 700, LSE, Sherpa. And of course ABAC.

CC is another story. I hate to bash on CC although the jet recording is pretty cool!

Hello young Padawan, err...I mean Hip baser. I think you should jump right into World Container it's one of their best albums.

That is true. but I have often found that I don't truely appreciate recorded live music from an artist until I have seen them live. A perfect example if this for me is the Dave Matthews Band. Before I saw them live they were just another band that I mildly enjoyed. I
had a live album, but the true beauty of it didn't strike me until I had the live concert experience as a frame of reference. Ever since that concert, I truely know how amazing they are as a band and it puts any live recording in a much different light. I would
suppose the Hip might be like that for some people as well.

The first two albums I bought were Live Between Us and In Between Evolution, and either of those would be an excellent choice. Personally, I think IBE has been the best album they've released since Phantom Power.

Alternately, look into Hipeponymous if you can scrape together the dough. It's got a concert DVD, which is a little more fun than Live Between Us.
