...on the absence of IBE and IVL tunes on this tour. Realizing that they have a huge catalog, and only 2 hours or so to play it, how do y'all feel about the snubbing of these two discs (and M@W for the most part)?

Everytime they tour it seems at least 1 or 2 albums get a snub. It's par for the course, man. No big deal.

Exactely and unless they play extended sets every show, some things have to be left out unfortunately. It would be ideal if they played the new stuff and just kept mixing up the old differently every show and I think they do a good job of that, more now than they ever did. Think about how many songs have been played the last couple of tours we thought we'd never hear...Fiddler's, 38 yrs...etc.., no cause for complaints really.

As for IBE and IVL, there's some great live songs on those albums, hopefully they will return to the mix again soon.

It is a shame, as I love both of those albums. The problem is, as a bands back catalogue gets longer, it becomes harder to fit all the great tunes in. At least there is a fair bit of rotation so we can't really complain too much. The club tour was great for that.

I went to my first show in Victoria at the beginning of the year (gimme a break I'm 18 ), and I admit I was disappointed I didn't hear them play Gus. However, they played Fiddler's and a whole bunch of my favourites like Poets and Wheat Kings, so that sort of smoothed it over Smile. You're guaranteed a great show no matter what they play, and there will always be more shows to go see, so I wouldn't sweat it.

EDIT: Just looked at the setlist of the second night, and they played Courage, Nautical Disaster and Gus, the three songs I missed, but they didn't play Poets, Fully Completely or Little Bones. The lesson here is they can't play everything, so you should go see both nights if there are two :p

It's because it's the big venues...they have to play what the general, and not what the hardcore Hip fan wants.
I love IBE, but let's be honest, it's generally not the most popular Hip album. So, we have to tolerate the constant "Courage", "100th" and "ABAC" at these big tours, so we get get the "Kids don't Get it", "Family Band" type songs we want to hear.
That's life.

i couldn't care less what they play, 100% of the hip songs are 100% better than any other songs in the world imo Big Grin :thumb: :jump :mrgreen:

Maybe they could change Courage around, you know, re-arrange it kinda. Or just play it from a different angle, you know. I think Gord Downie said something like "Songs are always evolving". SO the Courage you hear on FC, or the courage you hear on a tour in 1999 will be different from the Courage in 2007.

One thing I have always said about The Hip iswhen you leave a show you are often left saying "I can't believe they played (song)" instead of "I can't believe they didn't play (song)." I know that isn't true for everyone, but I'm sure it is for many. I will never fault them because other than Pearl Jam, I can't think of many acts that make a concious effort to play a new show each night. The case in point is all the club shows, and when they play multiple nights in a city. You get very few repeats of songs they aren't currently touring.

WITH ALL THAT SAID....

We can always wish for songs, but it might be a few tours before those deep cuts on IBE get played again (they seem pretty solidified on Gus Nashville and Summer) IVL (again, its Good Life and Direwolf) and MAW (MM@W, Lake). Whats amazing is each album has singles like Silver Jet, Scar and Freak Turbulance that haven't been seen in quite some time, yet random songs like Tiger The Lion, Are You Ready, etc have made andom appearences, which is exactly what I LOVE about the Hip.

If there is one song that should never be put to rest from IBE its Nashiville (thats just my opinion). I said the same this about Bring It All Back for RA, alas...

They played Direwolf when I seen them in Sudbury last month! That's from In Violet Light, isn't it? Or Music @ Work? I should really listen to those two albums a lot more as I tend to get all the songs confused. XD
