Hip Lent - Valente - 02-17-2007
Although I rarely go to Church anymore like I did when I was younger and don't follow the word of the Lord so to speak as much as it was taught when I was young and in elementary school, I still consider myself a Catholic and I definitely believe in God.
I don't know how many people here follow Christianity and follow the calendar of events but last year, my mom half-jokingly said, "What are you giving up for Lent?" - I laughed but then thought I would do something since I hadn't "given something up" for many years.
It came down to the one thing I love the most - this band. I know what your saying, its sacreligious to do that! But I did. It was one of the hardest things I've had to do - mentally. But I tell you my friends, after more than a month without even hearing a sound from Gord and the gang - it was like a re-birth of love and admiration. It was phenomenal and surreal, like a dream. A feeling of greatness, happiness and...grace, too.
40 days to go without your music,
40 nights where I couldn't hear your songs.

Has anyone else ever tried this? Would anyone do it this year?
It definitely keeps things fresh.

I do this, though not with this kind of intention. I listen to music in cycles, and often go a couple months without listening to the Hip (well, listening to them ad nauseum at least). It definitely does keep things fresh, I always come back with a new appreciation for the music.

I've gone as long as a year without listening to the Hip. If I'm dowloading a lot of non-Hip live stuff, I'll be listening to that all the time instead.
Coming back with fresh ears is always a treat.

You did a great job with the few that were produced, and I'm sure that new Hipbasers would appreciate participating in new ones.

Not the anyone particularly cares, but I'm giving up both the Hip and Hipbase for Lent.
Right at the start of the US Tour too -- all those multiple-daily visits to check setlists and concert reviews!! It's gonna kill me.
See you tomorrow and then again on Easter.

Oh, you really don't want to open that can of worms.
Suffice it to say that at an early age, I began to recognize that organized religion wasn't for me.
Love and virtue need no indoctrination, institutionalization, denomination, ritualization, or organization....as far as I'm concerned.
