BTW, are The Hip sure that they're playing enough Ontario dates? They are playing four shows at the Phoenix and now 10 MORE DATES in Jan and Feb.

- The Darkest Canuck - 10-23-2006

there can never bee "enough" Ontario dates...lol

nhaste Wrote:For those of you in Eastern Canada... this is what Rob just said on the Canoe chat:

"The dates we are doing right now are just some smaller club dates around the release of the record with more extensive touring coming in from January right through the summer. So if your town isn't there now, expect us somewhere close by in the summer. So we had to make a choice on some places if we would play them in the summer or winter. We decided Halifax and St. John's would be good summer gigs."

Nick

the dates listed today are in no way smaller club gigs. if there really is a 2nd leg to this tour, it would be nice if that was listed on the site.

this just shows that once again, the east coast gets the shaft

Thanks MAv. I think I created my account back in the beta version of the site, so I probably never did re-register and confirm and all that jazz.....

I'll PM you my address just in case it helps you track down the problem any better......

Halifax

it never stopped them before. this will be the first winter Hip tour with no dates east of Ontario

- dreyfuss - 10-23-2006

I know they've had to cancled dates out east in the past due to extreme wheather conditions, maybe they decided to play it safe this time around and hit the east coast in the summer.

Maybe they'll spend 2months out there this summer, who knows.

- mark - 10-23-2006

they had to postpone 1 show in 1996 because of a storm in NF. that is the only time that i can remember where the weather was a problem. the east coast weather is no different from Quebec or ontario

- dreyfuss - 10-23-2006

I don't know about the wheather not being any different, although I don't live there, you do so you would have a better idea but the east coast seems to get at least one insane storm a year, not saying they always line up with hip tours but still, I have friends out east that have sent me pictures almost every winter where the snow is like 6ft or more, Northern Ontario can get that sometimes but not southern Ontario.

I wasn't trying to pick a fight or anything Mark, just saying that maybe they'll be putting in overtime in the summer. You can always hope can't you?

Steve

i know you weren't picking a fight, steve :highfive

i am just pissed about no shows until the summer when ontario and the rest of the country and getting a shitload of them.

- GBV - 10-23-2006

raw rock band...got their start in guelph while at university...currently living in toronto...were on the much-loved and now-defunct three gut records...then in u.s. signed to sub pop...home of that nirvana band back in the day...swell fellahs all around...put on great, rockin', sweaty concerts...opened for gbv on earthquake glue tour...considering one of those "canada rocks" movement bands...

This shows us that you've read about the maritime woes, MAv! Can you give us a glimmer of hope of a second leg after these dates this winter? If you don't know, at least tell us you don't! The suspense of uncertainty is overwhelming!

- Gangrel - 10-24-2006

I thought they said they were coming to the Maritimes in the summer????

Anyway, I"m sitting here at work with 3 IEs open... here, thehip.com, and capital tickets! Just waiting for the password to appear!

I have to do better then the 7th row.... The boss and i are going to see BNL in Feb. too, but i have to be closer for my fav band then hers. Wink

Good luck to everyone, hope everything goes smooth!

- Wheat_King_Gus - 10-24-2006

Yeah, I'm afraid I have to echo the sentiments of my fellow Eastern Canadians. I can only hope that there is some reasoning behind this and we're not just being ignored (I highly doubt that's the case of course). As others have suggested, it may be because of weather concerns.

Is it too much to hope for a two-night stand here in St. John's this Spring?
