What a stretch by Mats....a Jagr-esque 18 points in his last 9 games. The time he's been needed the most, and he's stepped up his game big time. If only he had some decent talent around him..... :x

I lost a lot of respect for Nieuwendyk and Roberts for deciding to play in Florida for a few more bucks than they could have made in Toronto, but I think it was great of Nieuwendyk to say this about Mats:

''Mats is a great captain and a good friend,'' said the former Leaf. ''Sometimes he takes some abuse (in Toronto) but this guy cares as much as any captain I've ever played with, and he steps his game up when he has to.''

Thats great that Sundin has all those points now that the season is over. Where was Sundin and all of the other knob jockeys on his team for the first 70 games? If they would have played like this for the entire season they would be in the show. If I gave a shit about the Leafs I would not be pleased. Go Flames!

Christ, I dunno - maybe Mats missed 13 of them with an eye injury, then spent the next 20 or 30 trying to adjust to wearing a visor, which he then got rid of.....maybe.

Sorry, the Flames bandwagon is all full. Try San Jose's.

20 or 30 games trying to adjust to a visor.....you leafs fans freaking crack me up. Man if he only could have adjusted in 18 or 28 games you guys would have a shot at the playoffs.

Trying to explain hockey to a Leafs fan is like trying to explain String Theory to retard. Hopeless.

Golf Leafs Golf!

CFern...if I wasn't such a huge Leafs Fan I'd probably be in the same boats as Opiated, Tiger, Tommy and Douglas...but even I sometimes laugh at your arguments (20-30 games to adjust to a visor). I applaud your loyalty it is very admirable and you never back down from a fight, and for that you are to be commended. Don't ever change brother.

And for all you guys out there who say the Leafs are done...don't count your chickens so damn fast. Even though it would be just short of a miracle for us to make it in, we still have hope. Something tells me that dumbass Frenchman Briere and his comments late last week about the Leafs being done for the year and "getting ready to golf" lit a huge fire under their asses.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that cfern was being entirely sarcastic with the visor remark. He comes across as pretty hockey-savvy and that is a pretty weak argument - which leads me to believe he's joking. Of course, re-reading his post, he seems to be serious... Anyway, for whatever reason, Mats was not producing to his potential, but he has certainly stepped up now that the Leafs are fighting for their playoff lives. A leader he certainly is.

The visor? Come on, cfern.

- tigerthelion - 04-13-2006

The Canucks are now officially eliminated from the playoffs and deservedly so. Hopefully this means a big shakeup in Van city.

I hope to goodness Thornton doesn't get MVP. He tied Jagr tonight for most points. 54 and 68 assists to me is better than 28 goals and 94 assists. Anyway, that's just me.

I was being serious....but it was a terribly weak argument. Sadly, it was the best I could come up with, and a few hours later I can acknowledge it sucked. tommygunn Wrote:You so much as acknowledged my point about depth in your last post on the topic.

Huh? What exactly did I say to "so much as acknowledge" your point? Hey, if you think that the trade was good for the Bruins because their "depth" somehow improved by subtracting a superstar and replacing him with a 2nd liner, a 3rd liner, and a d-man, good for you! However, in my mind, for a team to have improved their "depth" via a trade, it would suggest that they got better because they are now deeper, yet, did the Bruins improve? Thought so. Man, I wish you were the GM for your beloved Habs. I'm guessing that other GMs in the league would have a field day with you and your concept of depth. You'd give Milbury a run for his money! Perhaps you should just stick to correcting others typos or sourcing posts. I think that's your true calling.

Dude, if you honestly think I get "humiliated" or "upset" by you, you love yourself waaaaay too much. Like I've said numerous times, there are plenty of people on this board who I debate with regularly who I actually like and respect, despite our disagreements. You are not one of them.

Still waiting for you to explain to me how the "depth" of Sturm, Primeau and Stuart is better for the Bruins than the Sharks getting Thornton. Three players who get you nowhere and don't improve your team one bit is not "depth". It's filler. Hoglund was once an NHLer. Someone should pick him up to grab some "depth". Seriously, should I fax you a picture?
Wow... just wow. Wasn't your visor comment enough humiliation for one day?
You so much as acknowledged my point about depth in your last post on the topic. Mind you, after I dummied it down to where even someone stubborn like yourself would understand.

Now, you retract it and bring up Hoglund's name? Brilliant! Confusedcratch:

Quote:C'mon tommy, send me another PM telling me that your "wife" thinks I'm a geek. I mean anyone who needs their wife to defend them in a forum is a force to be reckoned with. :thumb:
Huh? Where did this come from? You must have me confused with some of your other 'friends' on the board. Lay off the shrooms bro.

Don't be so upset that I laughed at your Sundin visor comment. I'm not the only one on the board who thinks it's hilariously funny. Tongue

95% of people polled think he's a geek so it could have been anybody. The other 5% were Leaf fans. They put the #13 on geeks, name him captain and then call him a god when he starts scoring after the season is over. Looks good in his prescription visor and orthopedic skates though.
