You guys rock! I can't wait to see how this will turn out. Thanks to all who is putting in their time and energy into this. Boy, if I had some contacts, you would be the first to know.
Since you have had some sort of contact with management, would it also be appropriate to get an answer/letter about posting shows on archive.org? What do you think?
Cheers!
Chad

I agree, let's do something about getting the Hip to respond about posting shows to archive.org. But let's keep this issue seperate from the hipbase show. No need to complicate that issue, I'm dying to attend a private show!

Hey all - update time.
After some mighty fine patience on our behalf, we have now gone right to the source and the source has replied back.
The source has informed us that since the boys are concentrating on recording the new record, and have not firmed up any dates for the tour, they could not commit to our idea right now. But with all good intentions, when they do get some timing figured out, they will be contacting us to discuss the idea further.
By the way, the source is genuine and sincere.
Hey, it's defenitely better than a kick in the shorts!
Cheers,
Mats.

Sounds pretty positive to me. It only makes sense for them do do something like this while they're in touring mode anyway.
Great work on getting this far. :thumb: Hopefully everything will turn out in the end and hopefully I can attend it when it all does. :thumb:

Please don't freak me on me guys, but does anyone else think it sounds like a bit of a brush off?
I know that they have to spend their time and energy on recording the album, but it is just one day. All the hip really has to do is show up right. What did the response "feel" like when you read it, did it come across as don't call us will call you? I'm sure that if we offered some crazy amount like 500,000. there would be no hesitation.
It will be interesting to see if they play any more gigs before the album comes out.
Hopefully I am completely wrong and this will all pan out at a time that is better for them.

Hey D-Bay,
You've always been so positive, don't give up now. My sense is that they get interesting requests often, and usually just brush them off. I truly believe that we will get the opportunity to sit down and discuss this properly.
Remember, we are the ones that are excited, not them. So they figure that they will discuss this when they can give some firm answers. If I were them I would do the same. I also feel that they are planning to do some events like this anyways so now they may reconsider some plans and include this.
They definitely know the gist of the event, the timing, the location, the payment plans etc, so I think we are still good.
I try to keep even keeled on this whole thing, either way.
Mats.
P.S. To answer one question, I am to contact them when I feel like I would like an update, not the other way around...I thought that was nice. :thumb:

In my estimation, thats a pretty healthy response from their management team, to say or do anything to get our hopes up at this stage of the game would not be a good idea on the hips part due to the fact that they are in the midst of the wood shedding process. At this point of the process I'd figure the less distractions they encounter the better, the bands entire focus is on the album right now. Not to say that this idea is a distracion to them but they have to do what needs to be done first and foremost. Isn't it the 20th anniversary of The Tragically Hip as well

cratch: with that in mind they'll be doing something or another to say thanx to everybody for the support.maybe a DVD, Fans Only GIG, The introduction of Downloadable Live shows, a B-sides package, man you could go on and on. 20 years in their line of work needs to be appluaded :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: :thumb: Way to GO Guys

It sounds like a positive response to me! Especially since Mats was given the opportunity to call back and check to see if the band is interested in the idea at a later date. ( Not vice-versa as he pointed out).
It seems to me that all the members of The Hip like to have input on all facets of the creative and managerial process. At this time the band is focusing on creating a new album for a spring/summer release. When the record is complete they will turn their attention to planning a tour to go with the release and that is when they will consider all the possibilities before them. Hopefully our idea will jump out at them. Remember previous tours always started with suprise, invite only shows in select cities before the actual tour started. The idea for our show could be incorporated into this.
I think Mats and the whole commitee have done a FINE JOB to get us to this point. The best we can do is stay positive and hope. I think the band has a true appreciation for its fan base and would consider doing a charity gig for their most loyal and intense fans. :thumb:

Hugh has a point, after all this isnt Kiss, who probably would leap at the opportunity to make more money if their fans coughed up enough cash.I get the feeling the Hip are intrigued by the idea of doing a charity show for their diehard fans. The boys being the artisans they are, they dont want to get out of that "recording" mood. I have faith :thumb:

i disagree, i think the hip wouldn't want to do it. i would love for it to happen, and i'll pay anything to be there, but i don't think it's appealing to them. i say this because, it would be like a trekkie convention. everyone here knows too much. if people here were to get ahold of them for a couple of questions it wouldn't be like "hey, what was that album called with the leafs song on it"? they would hate hipsters for being to analytical, and not just listening, and enjoying the music. people would bother about individual shows, and boots from 15 years ago, these guys have played thousands of shows and this would really bother them. i think? or they would love it and go ape shit, ah well, find out in time i guess!

NOIS does have a point, Its kinda one of those situations where the band is gonna have to sit down and examine our motivations for wanting this. I liken this to the Q & A gigs they did in 2000,with those the band kinda did their part and answered questions played a few requests, but this is gonna be something that is gonna be very much different for them. They undoubtedly have played for family and friends in the past where they're was very little to no expectations from them to answer the hard to answer questions without sounding rude or offensive. And with this situation they'll undoubtedly be a few of us that are going to be a little "On The Verge" When I met them in Saskatoon and Regina in 99 it was all I could think of to not be or say anything that would embarrass me for the rest of my life, but thats what I mean, its quite the daunting situation when you have your heroes look you in the eye

hock: If they do this its something thats gonna have a metric ton of thought put into it. Its gonna prawly be 99 % well this is how its gonna be and this is the way its gonna be done. As well it should be.

If I was Gord I'd be dreading the aftershow lineup...the concert's no biggie, but the meet and greet later on will take him
hours to get through.
-
VioletlightHeron - 11-21-2003
The thing i would be dreading if i was the band in this scenario is the requests to sing songs they havent played in ages. I'm on the fence about the meet and greet afterwards, cause i think we are all intelligent people wanting to show our respect and appreciation for the band and not ask questions about shows that happened 10 years ago. On the other hand, I think the Hip would love a meet and greet where the questions are..shall we say illogical and pointless. What would you do if you were in the band's shoes?Part of me would be absolutely flattered to play for diehard fans and the other half would be scared shitless cause the fans know so much about them and the music

hock: a hard choice, i would say.

mats - 11-21-2003
Hey guys, let me let you in on a little something.
We might just be content having the boys play for 700 or so of us as we meet and greet with each other while they decide to do exactly what they want to do.
They might just let us sing and dance all night long with them and then let us watch them ride off into the sunset.
I would not get too hung up on the meet and greet thing or the "can you play this song now" thing. Though we will certainly be requesting them to play certain songs...
However, you never know.
Mats.
P.S. Yes, this message is supposed to sound a bit confusing. :thumb:
