Well, that goal was caused because of Morrison not taking Staios who rushed in from the point but Auld still should have had it. Auld is good but I'm not going crazy over him as an elite goalie yet. I like Auld and think he's a decent number one but I still think he should have had that goal. He was also woefully out of position on a few shots, one in which he slid all the way out of the crease making a save. Auld is good and played pretty well against the Oilers. That doesn't make him untouchable. He isn't above constructive criticism either. His five hole was so big Staios could have fit a beach ball through it for that goal. Also, that Oiler player (Staios) had something to do with the goal as the puck didn't just go in on it's own.

Well, the sky is officially falling in Calgary. We've now lost two games in a row, while the teams nipping at our heels continue to get points. The Flames played a great game against Dallas today, and we really took it to 'em in the 3rd, but they just couldn't get that tying goal. This is NOT a good time to go into a slump, but as poor as the Flames have been lately, we're still playing .500 hockey and we're still sitting in 1st place in the division even after today's loss (depending on what happens in tonight's Avs/Oilers game of course).

The good news if you're a Flames fan is that 7 of their last 11 games are at the Saddledome where the they have the 3rd best home record in the league. But I gotta say, I'm pretty worried. We've got the defence and the goaltending, but our offence still isn't there...and that's gonna be a problem in the playoffs. I'm just not sure this team has that magic ingredient that took them to the finals in '04. I guess time will tell. I ain't jumpin' off the bandwagon yet.

GO HABS GO! 2-0, 5 minutes into the first, it's only Pittsburgh, but it's still a huge 2 points if they hang on for the W.

Bonk has another goal tonight, guy's scored more goals in his last two games (3) than he did all season long, but at least he's picked a good time to start heatin up...not to mention he's been setting up the goals too.

and Chris Higgins (who has the other goal for MTL tonight) is having a helluva a year, but over the last little stretch he's been clutch, so impressed with this guy, he's beginning to look like he'll be a part of the team for many years to come.


c'mon Koivu, pot one against the Pens...or just assist somebody else, it'd be nice to see him score a little more often, but as long as somebody's scoring, i guess it's just as well that he's gettin the A's...

You got your wish, no he didn't score, but a 3 assist night for Saku Koivu. The Habs picked up a huge 2 points. Aebischer let in another 5 goals though, as he now has in all 3 of his starts for Montreal. Even with a big win tonight against Jersey, this pretty much spells the official end to the Maple Leafs playoff hopes.

Wild ending to that Leafs/Habs game last night, that was one vicious elbow by Kovalev. I was surprised the league didn't suspend him for it.

tragicallymike...big game tomorrow night, both our teams really need a win to get back on track. If the Rangers win they'll be just 1 point back of Buffalo, which could be huge b/c if the Flyers can win the Atlantic, it would be Rangers/Sabres in the 1st round.

I loved that play. That dickhead Tucker narrowly missed potentially ending Kovalev's career with the flying elbow he tried to give him 20 seconds before Kovalev gave Tucker a taste of his forearm. I thought it was pretty impressive for Kovalev to take matters into his own hands. And there is no way the league would suspend Kovalev given it was Tucker. Hell, remember when Alfredsson nearly beheaded Tucker in the playoffs and he wasn't even given a penalty? It's pretty clear what the league thinks of that clown. I know I'm supposed to like Tucker because he's a Leaf, but I can't stand his antics or his constant whining to the refs. If it wasn't for the fact that he's the Leafs' best winger (how sad is that?), I'd say ship his ass out of town for a bag of pucks in the offseason.

that game tomorrow night scares the shit outta me. Sabres need a win BIG TIME. Hopefully they will get Timmy Connolly back into the lineup. I pray that Jagr gets the 24 hour bug and has to sit this one out. Potential first round matchup....should be exciting.

i was actually at that game, i was very angry that there was no call...

but a couple years later, it all evens out. Tucker deserves most of what he gets, the Kovalev hit being something he definatley deserved

i've never seen a puck carrier go after and hit somebody like that before, one of the coolest hits i've seen all year, right up there with when Huet leveled that guy racing for the puck.

Yeah, Tucker definitely deserves most of what he gets. I'm back and forth on Tucker. Sometimes I wish someone would end his career and sometimes I wish he was on the Canucks because when he's hitting and scoring and plays with an edge he's a good player. Of course he dives and whines a lot too. I'll give him his due for his toughness though. What is he, 175 pound soaking wet? He's a tough SOB. I hate Mike Peca so I liked that low hit by Tucker in the playoffs but I'm sure Peca didn't feel sorry when/if he saw a replay of the Kovalev elbow. It reminds me of another Russian who took matters into his own hands and he just happens to actually be my favourite all time player. The Bure elbow on Churla is one of my favourite plays. Churla might have actually killed Bure in a fight if he ever got his hands on him back then but Bure luckily had Odjick to protect him from that ever happening.

Seriously? Pavel Bure is your favourite all time player?

I think my biggest Pavel Bure memory is when he scored all three goals in a 7-3 loss to the Kings. His third goal came with about 20 seconds left and he celebrated like he'd just won the Cup. I remember my buddy - a 'nucks fan - looking at me and saying:I think Pavel doesn't know the score of the game, but he sure knows how many goals he has.

Did you think it was a low hit? I never thought it was. My impression was always that Tucker went in with a hip check, and rather than just take the hit Peca kinda straightened up which caused Tucker to hit his knees.

Peca is a bum though. Like I've said many times before, the mythology of Mike Peca Ultimate Leader is all due to Hasek and Peca should be sending Hasek 50% of his inflated paycheques.

I like Tucker, sure he plays on the edge and goes over it by times, but you gotta love his heart. Often lost in all of his antics is the fact that the guy can actually play. When he's on his game, he's a very valuable player. Alexei Kovalev on the other hand, i can't stand. And not just because he's an ex-Ranger, i never liked the guy.
