My nationalistic days may be far behind me, but the anthem still should have been shown on television. Not that the CBC or TSN have't not shown the US anthem before, just that usually they'll edit both now before opting for just one.
Cheers

All in all it just doesn't weaken my point. I know the point of this thread is the anthem not being shown. I just got off on a little rant, that's all. The point that Jeter and A-Rod are losers got across fairly clearly I think. The point about Gord not being shown, well I almost expected it. If not for the Simpsons, Fox would have nothing.

MY email...
Tonight I sat eagerly through one of the worst pre-game All star game shows I've seen in a while just to watch the lead singer of my favorite band, Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip, sing his nation's anthem 'O Canada'. When you cut to commercial, the voice over said the national anthem and ceremonial pitches were next. I said to my boyfriend "I sure hope the anthems are both showed".
Then you came back from break and only showed Fantasia. Now, I love Fantasia and I voted for her and supported her all the way through American Idol once the GOOD singers were all voted off. I think it was great that she was chosen to sing it, however, to put her up against a international star like Gord Downie was a joke. Many people may not be aware of the Tragically Hip in the states, but there are many hip fans like myself in the states. There also many around the world.
Worst yet was when you didn't even SHOW Gord sing O Canada. Now, while I'm an American and I'm very proud of my country and I love our national pastime of baseball, I've been a fan for over 25 years, I was livid that you didn't show 'O Canada'. Baseball is played in Canada too! There are many Canadian players in Major league baseball too! Would you have shown 'O Canada' if it was the NHL All Star game? Just because it is a "Canadian sport" just like Baseball is an "American" sport.
Sorry, Fox, you dropped the ball. Me and my fellow hip fans were clammoring to see Gord on television singing 'O Canada'. Even if it wasn't him singing it, it was still a travesty that you did not show the singing of 'O Canada'. You insulted an entire nation, and of course millions of Hip fans around the world who wanted to see Gord sing.
Sincerely,
*insert my first and last name*

I'm even more pissed off now cause knowing Gordie he would have taken the mic, belted out one of his mid song classic rants and then he probably would have slid into home plate head first ....man did we get screwed.
Goulet!!!

Haha, maybe this is their way of getting back at Gord for all of his recent bashing of the Fox News Networks coverage he watched while they were recording IBE.

I swear that mlb.com revised their blurb on GD and the anthem, but when I was googling for the original unaltered release, I found this:
Gord Downie of The Tragically Hip
7/19 (5 pm ET):
Lead singer of Canadian band The Tragically Hip, Gord Downie, joins host Meg Griffin to talk about the band’s latest album, Between Evolution.
Happening on SIRIUS Disorder 24 which is channel 6024 on dish network for those of us who are free from CRTC domination.

Kinda late chiming in on this one...was busy watching "Last Comic Standing"...
After listening to several radio stations drumming up Gord today (the Fan 590 led each 20-20 update with it), I finally got home at around 8:15pm tonight and flipped on Fox/Toronto 1 just in time to see the player introductions and thought to myself "good, didn't miss Gordie"...I even rushed my 6-year old through his pre-bed routine so he could watch (he's a HUGE TTH fan...:mrgreen

...As soon as I saw the "Bank of America Pre-Game" logo, I knew we were screwed...
Just par for the course where TTH are concerned south of the border...
If you can't beat 'em, f*ck 'em... :rambo:

Is anyone really suprised that fox didnt play the Canadian National anthem?

cratch: ....im not....Just the typical disrespect Canadians get from our "great" neighbours to the south. Just think what would happen if we "forgot" to air the American national anthem (WW 3 anyone?). :rambo: Anyways Im sure Gord did us Canadians proud its to bad that no one in CANADA got to see it!.
Cheers

I'm as disappointed at missing Gord's performance as the rest of us, but it should be pointed out that tonight's egregious oversight is part of a grand tradition. Remember the 1992 World Series, when the National Color Guard displayed the Canadian flag upside down and sparked an international incident? As much as I wish I could have heard Gord sing "O Canada" I have a feeling its omission from the broadcast won't have quite the same effect.

Maybe deep down we all saw this coming, knowing that it's happened to us before. But once you involve Gord Downie, it gets personal.

I agree...obviously everyone here is disappointed about our (Hip fans and/or Canadians) being "shunned", but we wouldn't care nearly as much (if at all?) if it were Chad Kroeger (to use our favorite whipping boy) who's rendition of the anthem was omitted...
Ya gotta feel bad for Gordie...I'm sure he was sold on the notion that it would be good "exposure" for him and the band...What a wasted trip...especially when he could have been golfing at the Dan Snyder memorial tourney with Paul and the rest of the boys today instead (as highlighted on TSN)...
Bottom line is I care that much less about MLB (and sadly, by extension the Jays) than I did this morning as a result of tonight's events...
