Thoughts and prayers to Gordie, his family, and all friends and fans. Very sad news indeed. And yes, will be some very difficult shows for them and us but I will be hitting as many as I can to support Gordie, the rest of the band, and all of us.
Gordie, we love you more than you can ever imagine....

Also posting here for the first time in forever. Fuck, I knew that e-mail was going to be bad news, but I expected "we've decided to pack it in after this album," not "Gord is dying."
I'm gutted, my wife is gutted. If they don't come to the US on this tour (I doubt they would), we're flying up and seeing at least one show.

Both scenarios are terrible, but I can't seem to come to grips with the inevitability of it all.
It makes the idea of watching this last show(s) almost too hard to consider signing up for.
Physician at news conference made a point of indicating the public sharing of Gord's condition was at least in part motivated to raise awareness about the disease. Public awareness = $$ = research = better odds of success. It's remarkable that Gord and support team would do this given the circumstances. A class act to the finish line.

Such a very sad day indeed! The Tragically Hip has brought so many good memories into our lives during all the Hip Trips we have made from the state of Maine. We have met so many of you fans and now friends over the years seeing the band out on the road. We looking forward to seeing a show or two this summer as well and may our paths cross again in the days to come.

Isn't it just? No one would've blamed him for keeping this a secret--but the fact he'll soon be baring his soul to arenas full of emotional fans is extraordinary.
A friend of mine had the same kind of tumour as Gord; she fought for as long as was medically possible and made raising money and awareness about brain cancer her cause and, ultimately, one of her biggest legacies. She blogged about it here:

Fair warning: there's a bit in there about life expectancy that might be a bit upsetting today. But Alyson was--is--a hero, so if you've got some time to spare give her blog a look.

I don't know why but the intro to Ahead by a Century at Woodstock just keeps coming into my mind. Right before the song kicks in Gord says: I love you, always will. It will be burned into my mind forever. The inflection in his voice when he says it is just so poignant and beautiful. There are hundreds of little moments like that though, little things thrown into the middle of a song (someone else mentioned the "a yoo hoo" in the middle of ABAC), or little ways of introducing a song that created a deeper personal connection with the band and the music.
Fuck this sucks.

I haven't been on here for a couple of years. Could remember my user name and password so I re-registered. Could not believe the sad new this morning. Heard it on CJCD radio (Mix100) here in Yellowknife. Gord and the band's music has had a very big impact in my life. Just feeling sad, thinking about Gord and wanted to check in here.

I have to believe (and hope) that these shows won't be sympathetic and difficult to bear but rather The Hip rockin' out in all their power-fullness. I don't think the band would want it any other way. It (hopefully) will be a rockin' celebration of the band. If they are on the books....I'm all in!

I was thinking the same. Tear the roof down. Go out like they came in.

Every band has a shelf life or will end. It just sucks I'm not done with them yet. If this is the end, I'm glad I invested all these years in them. Met a lot of cool people and seen a crap load of great shows. Proud to be a fan. Fight till the end.
... So who is gonna be the first dickhead complaining about Gord screaming the lyrics in the show review section...

I thought being down here in Tampa would have made it easier to digest... I was wrong, a 12 pack and a nap, not including a sick day from work have some nothing. Maybe it's my own homesickness, but I think it may just be the pain of losing a parental figure... I don't know, it really just sucks... Not much else to quantify...

This is a fucking awful day. But we've got some responsibility now, as fans. Let's show Gord and the band how much they mean to us on this upcoming tour. Let's scream til our throats are sore, so he doesn't have to. And let's be thankful there's another tour around the corner.

This is such devastating news, and my heart is aching. This band has been such a big part of my life for almost 30 years. Their music has been with me every step of the way and has gotten me through a lot of crap. Over the years I've often gone to ridiculous lengths to see them live, including several trips to the U.S. just so I could see them in smaller venues, and it was worth every goddamn penny. Best rock n' roll band of all time. Thank you Mr. Downie, and thank you Rob, Paul, Johnny, and Gord S for providing the soundtrack to my entire adult life. I'll be there for the final tour singing my ass off as usual. See y'all this summer, my fellow Hip heads.
