When I saw them on 2012-06-30 - Niagara-on-the-Lake, The Hip sent the crowd in an absolute trance during 'Weaken' and followed it up with 'We Want To Be It'. They were reaching the apex of their performance with those two songs, in my opinion. They were rocking out so hard to those songs, and I could not believe the power behind 'We Want To Be It'. I think it's an instant Hip classic. There's no way it is not being played at every single show this tour, and I hope afterwards it stays in rotation to their setlists.
Also, a radio-edit of this song is a must, because I can see it being rocked on stations across Canada... if it wasn't for the loud 'f**k'.
There are people who don't like that song? I don't understand that. I loved it immediately upon hearing it live. It stood out amongst the other new songs for sure.

I actually really like the echo effect. I think it perfectly suits the sound and feel of the music as well as Gord's delievery. The only thing I don't like about that tune are those annoying synth notes near the end of the song. It's very Bob Rock-ish. Whoever thought that was a good idea needs a good swift kick in the junk. It's a totally unnecessary addition to an otherwise stellar song.

:thumb: I'm diggin the delay on GD....makes it surreal. Along with the echoy guitars... Not too sure about the strings near the end but it is subtle... Great little tune.

Yeah I really don't get it. That synth string sound just doesn't fit at all. And it only happens the once so it seems super out of place. If it happened elsewhere in the song at least it would be part of the song. As it is it seems like someone just pasted that over.

I agree that this isn't the record I thought it would be reading the press the last year or so. Was expecting more of an In Between Evolution, live off-the-floor feel. So that really "rock" sounding song during the videos of The Hip in the studio didn't make the record?
I'll say this, I'd be very surprised if The Hip are playing arenas in Canada when the Canadian tour rolls around. I'd expect a theatre tour again with how this record sounds.

I'll take a theatre tour over an arena show any day of the week. I have no doubt that they could still pack arenas, but nothing's better than seeing these guys in an intimate venue.

Well i listened to Man Machine Poem on a good set of speakers and it sounds a lot better. I was listening to it from my speakers on my laptop so that could of been some of the problem. The echo or delay is still too much for me but as i was listening to it i was thinking i hope the physical album sounds better than the stream from soundcloud.

theatre tour would be sweet. when i seen the hip last year here in moncton they played in a small theatre in our casino and they sounded amazing. best sound ive ever heard from any live music ever.
