Wasn't me who said that. I agree it's not a great album.
spottrax Wrote:the #1 thing that drew me to the Hip was Gord's unique voice. His phrasing, his lyrics and overall richness in that fantastic instrument he owns. There really is nobody like him.
I couldn't agree more. Yes I criticize sometimes but I guess that's because I expect the best, because he IS one of the best. I love how he doesn't put up a fake or pretentious front when he sings. He's got a very down-to-earth way of singing. That's pretty rare in rock music. And there is nobody in my entire music collection that writes lyrics as great as him. I can't wait for the new album.
I want to hear a release date dammit!
I forgot to add that GD might just be the most visually engaging front man in rock. I can't think of another lead singer who commands the stage the way he does. Downie has a bag of tricks so huge.... you never know what might be coming next. Rants, crazy dancing, vaudville, hankie stuff.... look at all the elements he did on the 09 tour and broke down that 4th wall (going out into the crowd etc).
yes bring on the new album and tour! :thumb:

The release date for this album seems to be ever changing.
I was just told it was pushed until October 2. So that will probably change too.

Seriously? Fer Christ sakes, the album has been in the can for months now, and the single has been out since May. Just put the damn thing out already. This hesitation on Universal's part is kind of baffling, as I'm sure it is to the band as well. Even Paul mentioned in a recent interview that if the band had their choice, they would have put it out in the summer.

Is it just me, or have The Hip NEVER had good management?
The delay of getting this album out is turning into a joke that is not funny.
I'll tell you what the joke is. The fact that The Hip are only a zit on the ass of America for popularity.
I, for one, blame that on MANAGEMENT!
In this day and age, where you promote the shit out of your album, The Hip aren't doing that. Letterman, Leno, Jimmy Fallon, Jimmy Kimble, Craig Ferguson...the list could go on. Have you ever seen The Hip on ANY of these shows?...NOPE, not me either. (SNL aside, that was 20 yrs ago)
Blah, blah, blah...

And even for SNL, that was Danny Ackroyd getting them on there. Not management!

I think it's the label not management. As long as The Hip have a major label contract they are beholden to the whims of said major label - regardless of what they or their management want to do...

Perhaps they're using this short American tour as a means to gauge distribution?
And Chris is right; this decision is all label. It's a shame the band is locked into a major label. I'm sure if they were signed to an indie, there'd be a lot more creative control, and we might see more of the exclusives that fans are hoping for. Hell, the band should just cut out the middle man and start their own label. I'm sure they know who's buying their records anyway...

They could use Ching Records, doesn't Paul own that?

I wonder how long they're locked in with Universal? They switched to them in 1998 with Phantom Power.

Well, the only date publicly announced so far is Syracuse, NY. So that will be a
real short American tour.
