New Years Eve in Chicago

We are happy to announce that we will be celebrating
New Years Eve in the beautiful windy city of Chicago.

The show is being taped for a live-to-air television broadcast on CBS2 in HD starting at 10:30pm (CTL)



The lines above were pasted from thehip.com. My wife and I will be attending the show. Can anyone explain to me what the last sentence means (ie., taped for a live-to-air broadcast).

I know there will be cameras everywhere that will pump their feed to a portable control booth which will then be sent out for broadcast. Will The Hip concert broadcast pretend that it is Midnight 2007 aproximately 15 to 30 minutes earlier than the actual Central Standard Time time so that the producers can edit in comercials and edit out any possible swearing or gyrations by Gord Downie? Will I be celebrating New Years a little earlier than the majority of the Chicago residents?

Secondly, will any Illinois Hipbasers be able to capture this broadcast to be uploaded to the HipTracker at a later date?

I get WBBM (Chicago CBS 2) on my DVB setup. The broadcast is called Chicago Rocks. Runs from 10:35pm to 12:15am.

The online TV Schedule at the CBS2 Chicago website does not list the broadcast as HD though (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://cbs2chicago.com/programming">http://cbs2chicago.com/programming</a><!-- m -->).

I will hopefully record it successfully in addition to being there live. :-)

Great news Mark! I hope you have a successful capture. I will look for you at the HOB.

I see that you stated the show runs from 10:35p to 12:15a. That must mean there will be a 5 minute delay from the performance to the broadcast. Tickets state the show starts at 10:30p. This would allow for editing of any Gord antics deemed inappropriate by the censor. :thumb:

I would kill to get to see that show in HD... I guess that won't be possible, right? Is this being broadcast in Canada anywhere?

Hi all,

Just got in on an early flight into Chicago. We just walked by the HOB and they have the show up on the outdoor screen/sign.

...And we just saw a commercial for the show on TV. Very exciting!

Off to check out Chicago. See you Hipbasers at the show!

I am very pleased to announce that Esthete and I will be at the NYE show!!

He surprised me with tickets for my birthday (Dec 23rd) and Christmas present. I must say that I was completely floored. I had no idea that my gift would be something that was a) of such magnitude or b) so incredibly special and heartfelt. I cannot believe that our first hip show together will be on New Year's Eve. Talk about meaningful!!

We're getting in on NYE and leaving New Year's day. Maybe we'll be able to locate a few hipbasers to say hello.

I will be there with my wife WheatQueen (Carolyn). We are going to the show with two other Hipbasers, John Cage (Chris) and our new buddy, barrybre17. I have seen so many of you at other shows, I shouldn't have a problem locating everyone. I'm looking forward to a great evening....

And here's a bit more info, assuming the latest person(s) I spoke with at HoB / WXRT know what they are talking about:

There are three bands - The Changes are support, Matisyahu and The Hip are co-headliners and are supposed to get equal time (from HoB), but I think The Hip will get a longer set (after talking to someone at XRT).

So my best guess is:

The Changes 9 - 9.30
equip change 9.30 -10
Matisyahu 10 - 11
equip change 11 - 11.30
The Hip 11.30 - 1.15a or 1.30a

So what gets played at midnight? Something rocking I hope. 1/2 hour in is a little early for Bones. Perhaps Poets?

I asked friends to tivo the show in HD but they are out of town so I'll probably only get until 1a in HD. Hopefully someone else gets the whole thing in HD (assuming channel 2 does the whole thing), else I'll have it on good 'ol vcr tape.
