Let's put some perspective into this, NHL players are entertainers, ENTERTAINERS, nothing more, they pass around a little rubber puck and many actually believe it has some kind of divine purpose. When i'm lying on a gurney, with my appendix ready to burst, I want a doctor, not Todd Bertuzzi. Who deserves million dollar salaries ? A guy who can skate fast and is co-ordinated or the guy who's gonna save my life ? The importance put on sport is ludicrous, I love watching hockey, but realise it is nothing in the game of life, nothing but entertainment. You have greedy agents telling greedy players how important they are, greedy owners gouging the fans for every cent they can. $6.50 for a can of beer in the Saddledome, and that's one of the cheapest prices in the league. As for hockey players having tough jobs, that's absolutely hilarious. Let's see, work to stay in shape, play the Game you love, a childs game, travel the world, stay in the best hotels, the best of everything, retire and never work another day in your life...To say they have a tough job is beyond belief. Get out in the real world, take a trip to Rwanda, or Haiti or Iraq or just about anywhere in Africa, South America or Asia. Professional sport is nothing but a sign of the luxury we live in, the importance of it really is trivial when you take a look at the world around you. Realise how lucky you are to live where you do and understand just how selfish and unimportant professional sport is in general, like the players/owners and agents who would have you believe otherwise. Greed epitomized, Players wanting more money, agents wanting more money and the owners wanting more money , and who's paying for this ? Who is not even a consideration to either side ? The loyal fans, if that doesn't snap a person out of just what kind of greed is going on here nothing will. Here's what the fans need , a union to negotiate cheaper ticket prices , cheaper beer , free parking..etc.. Both sides are equal greed piggies in an industry that is entirely inconsequential and disposable. That's reality.

Whew, this one is getting heated! At least you Canadians have some passion for hockey. I can't see too many people down here in the states getting worked up over the lockout. I think that might even be part of the problem.

I sure hope this thing gets worked out soon, however I do not think it will. Say goodbye to this season. Hope that next year brings back some good times.

while sports may be entertaining, the players themselves are not entertainers...their job is to play the game as best they can and try their hardest to win. it's similar to musicians, their music videos and concerts may be entertaining, but their job isn't to entertain people, their job is to make the best art that they can, and to perform it as well as they can, to better themselves as artists, not to entertain.

The NHL is a $2.1 billion ENTERTAINMENT industry. The players are the entertainers. There is no difference between paying $50 to go to an NHL game and paying $50 to see the Hip. You are going with the expectation of being entertained by the entertainers.
