I love 'The Kids Don't Get It.' A gem amidst the turds of that album.

There's not a song on WC I don't love. Apparently that entire album is my hidden gem.

I was just listening to Country Day at work and I really dig that tune. For me personally, WATS is a huge record.
You infiltrate my life
You resonate with meaning
I wrote I love you on a rock one night
And threw it never dreaming
Now our dreams are where we're at
What we can feel and touch
Its work we understand
We don't want for much
That gets me right where it counts.

Queen of the Furrows was my least favourite initially from We Are The Same (I think the 'hens cluck and roosters crow' line threw me off). QotF is now possibly my favourite tune on that album.
That end solo.... holy fuck Robbie.

A Beautiful Thing
Wild Mountain Honey

stevewiebemusic, 'Country Day' is a pretty good call. I think people are turned off by the strings, understandably. But it's a good tune; I particularly enjoy the way the verses, which seem tonally quite at odds with the chorus, are brought into harmony as they veer back to the refrain, making the song's melodic logic tumble into place.
I've said before that, to my ear, Rock's production is much better suited to the 'poppier' material on WATS than the rock-oriented stuff on WC. Not to say that WATS is flawless by any means, but it's not a disaster like WC. 'Moon' and 'Recluse' are two of the best things they've ever done.

Love this tune. And I can't hear O Canada now without adding "
...'cuz we certainly can't" to the "
God keep our land" line.

Hearing this song live turned my wife into a Hip fan.

The song that has the line "'watch yourself', I say to my toasted Western" and you have a problem with
that line?!

That's my favourite line of the song! It cements the pastoral imagery of the song. Delivered with a stern wit only Gord could get away with. I can't hear it without picturing Gord on stage pointing his finger at an imaginary toasted Western.

We are the same is also my "hidden gem" album.
This was a fun list to make, I didn't want to go so "hidden" that it was unreleased songs I felt had 0% chance of being played. In keeping with the original post, I made sure not to name songs that too out in the open to qualify as "hidden." For example, I left "something on" off my list because they made a music video for it and "trickle down" because it was released as a single on UTH. Ditto for Lake fever & Twist my arm. Or anything that I remembered as being on the "yer favorites" track listing. Here are the first ten songs that came to mind:
Dark Canuck
At The Heart Of The Melt
You're Everywhere
One Night in Copenhagen
Makeshift
Vapour Trails
Opiated
Last American Exit
Chagrin Falls
The Luxury
Encore list: quieter songs
If New Orleans is beat
The Rules
Membership
Apartment Song
New Maybe
