I think Esthete knows the sports very well, check our fantasy baseball league...he's crushing everyone right now.

Yea, my "bold prediction", which I made the
first week of the season, looks to be way off. Funny though, I didn't see you come on here
MAY 7, a month after I said that, when the Yanks were 5.5 games out and in FOURTH place and talk that shit to me, did you? You joined Hipbase on April 27....where was your supreme baseball knowledge then?
I thought NY might be struggling to find decent starting pitching behind Sabathia to hang in that division (see Wang, Hughes, Mitre - or lack thereof). For a short while, it looked to be an accurate prediction. I have to give Pettitte and Burnett credit for stepping up and pitching better than i thought they would this year.

You do know that there's a timestamp on each post right? You might want to look at that once in awhile before you snipe.
You sure have an odd way of making friends around here in your first 15 posts.

Killer read. Thanks for posting. Posnanski is incredible.
I wish I was born ten years earlier so I could've fully experienced the BRM.

We still have a whole month to go, Sully, and your Superfarmers are way off the Games Started pace! You're allowed 161 total for the season, and you've only used 113. At this pace, you'll fall about 18 starts short -- that's 18 potential wins and 18 quality starts that you could be leaving on the table.
I was hovering in 2nd/3rd place for the majority of the season, and just about three weeks ago, I had big surge of power offense and good starts. Now it seems like I'm "way ahead" but I'm really not. Remember, when you overtake me in a category, it's a 2-point differential (I lose a point, you gain one); so a championship is still possible for you. There are lots of categories where you can jump up several slots, and seriously -- that can add up on your score.
Given the fact that you still have 48 starts to use, you can realistically imrpove your standing by several several slots in Wins, Quality Starts, Strikeouts. Heck, you could feasibly pick up 8-10 points on your total score in pitching categories alone! And that's not counting possible points you can gain in each of the offensive categories by leapfrogging some teams that you closely trail.
I suggest you look at what's feasible for your team in each category, use some discretion, and add available FA talent to try to meet those goals. Now isn't the time to be loyal to your existing personnel who might be underachieving...cut bait where you see fit. At the very least, start picking up at least one probable starter each day (and probably two every other day) to make sure you get your 161 starts. Unless, of course you think doing so will jeopardize your standing in ERA / WHIP. It's a balancing act, but IMHO, your best bet is to make sure you maximize your opportunity to gain points in wins and quality starts.
Just my advice.... :thumb:

Much appreciated, and I'm already on it. Sort of. Just pulled up the Max/Pace stat last week and noticed I was lagging. Sort of surprised me. So I fully plan to get all my starts before the year is out. Not to make excuses, but not having access to the league from my job is killer. Got to set lineups/make transactions the night before a slate of games after the family is in bed. Sure would be nice to slack off from work with some fantasy baseball strategizing, now that I can no longer loiter at the hipbase hoping for U.S. tour rumors...

Mitre was awesome today, the Yankees are back, bound for October, I'm so friggin' pumped to see the new look Yankees in the playoffs, everything feels right this season, the planets and stars are in the right alignment for the Yankee Universe... :jump

What he said...I just picked up Ohlendorf for tommorrow's game versus the Brewers coz Suppan will, as expected, stink up the joint. Man, my poor pitiful Brewers.....

Obviously my reply was not intended to create animosity in any manner, I was merely trying to stick up for my team.
Reason I did not reply to the thread earlier, is I wasnt aware it existed until it was replied to recently and appeared in the "recently updated threads" on the home page. I assure you I would have replied early in the year with my "supreme baseball knowledge" more then likely by stating, the best player in the league was still recovering from surgery, and it was only a matter of time before adding him to the lineup would have a huge impact on the number of pitches Teixeira saw and they would be scoring an absurd amount of runs.
I have a standing bet in my office with a Sox fan, if Boston finishes the year (playoffs included) farther than the Yanks I have to come to the office in full Sox Uni, and grow a moustache (and vice versa). I will gladly post a picture of it for your entertainment, and satisfaction if I lose.
Again, dont take my smack talk personally, I was only trying to do my part in fueling the best sports rivalry in the history of sport.
Good luck down the stretch...

Okay...cool. I get you.
For the I'm not a Yanks
or Sox fan. I can only wish that my team was as relevant, year-to-year, as either of those clubs. I mostly was only trying to needle TDC for his cheerleading.
I did think they'd have a tough time again this year, though. I thought the Jays might have stayed hot for just a
little longer than they did, and that the Rays would have been a
little tougher than they've been.
The Yanks don't really have that elite #2 in the rotation, and while it hasn't hurt them much so far, it might in the postseason. I wouldn't count on Burnett to be that guy, but who knows what'll happen I guess. Pettitte has been reliable in the postseason in the past, but not really since 2003. That was a long time ago. We'll see about Joba and his role.
But damn, their bats
are on fire right now.
Boo.

I don't suppose there's anything interesting to watch until the playoffs start, unless you live in Minnesota or Michigan.

IDK, Sabbathia has a shot at picking up his 20th W of the season tonight against the Rays...that sounds pretty interesting to me.
