It has been said that that Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen never had the best voice but come on for Rock and Roll these guys voices are perfect they are dam well not singing at an opera and who the hell would want that for this kind of music!
One of the only reasons they did not get as big in the U.S. is because they stuck to there roots wrote and sang the music they wanted and never sold out like some other Canadian groups that got big and do not sing about anything but shit no meaning at all (Nickel Back).
Nor do I believe the comment about someone saying that in the band ya they always confide in fans and make comments like that :roll:

Um no I am not a troll, though it is funny how defensive people get here. And my comments have been relevant to the overall discussion. I have spent time with the Hip in various settings. I'm a huge fan, but, I am also realistic about their strengths and weaknesses. It's not a big deal if one of them has made a comment about Gord's singing.

There are a few hip songs that I would love to hear with just Paul’s backing vocals and guitar - nothing else (must get hands on studio master tapes)

True no big deal that's what forums are about and defending The Hip is why the have stood the test of time and have accomplished what they have accomplished because they have such a following. If they never had Gord and his lyrics and he is considered one of the best lyricists of his time The Hip would not be what they are today. He has the type of voice that makes The Hip unique and one of the greatest bands ever :thumb:

I think if such respected musicians as the members of Rush can find the music of The Hip to be great, it isn't a stretch to see why so many others do. As far as having a great singing voice, that is irrelevant to me. Who is considered to have a "great singing voice" anyway? Celine? I mean, it is what it is. I've actually grown to like Gord's voice more in the last few years. I saw Gord on his 2003 solo tour and I actually came away from the show in AWE of his voice, to be perfectly honest with you. The emotion and intensity fucking floored me and opened my eyes to how powerful a singer he really can be. Sometimes he gets in ruts when he's singing, but when he's on, he's friggin amazing. One thing I love about Gord's singing is that he really belts it out in a live setting. He puts so much into it. I mean, he's not just sweating after one or two songs because of the heat alone. He's belting it out. I guess what I'm wondering is, what lead singer of a Canadian band IS considered to have a good voice?
All in all, man, there's no reason for me to not believe what you are saying. If you heard it, you heard it. Like you even said, it's still not a big deal.

Danny Greaves of the Watchmen. I caught their reunion show here in Calgary last night, and I was absolutely floored by how amazing that guy's voice is. During their heydey in the mid-90s I probably saw those guys live about 15 times, and I don't remember him ever hitting a sour note.

And as far as Gord's lyrics being 'cryptic' on this record, Gord has stated in countless interviews that Rock pushed him to write more straightforward lyrics. I dunno about you, but every song for me besides "Kids Don't Get It" seems pretty standard to me.
