I suppose I misspoke. I guess I meant after all the hype. It's difficult to speculate how someone who's only ever played in Europe might transfer to the NHL. The guy has certainly impressed in his two full starts.

It's funny how it goes in Leaf land. After that one period against the Caps where he got shelled by a stellar offense, and that loss to the Sens, where he played really well, it seems almost everybody wrote Gustavvsson off. All the sports radio shows, and Hockey Central shows kept talking about how goaltending was going to be a huge issue, and the Leafs didn't have a legitimate goalie in their organization. Even yesterday I heard them joking on the Fan590 how Leafs fans would soon be pining for the Raycroft days again. Then the Monster gets his first win, and suddenly Leaf fans start remembering that he's still in the NHL, and are anointing him the savior of the franchise. From written off, and completely forgotten about, to praised and hailed as a hero in the course of one day.

I dont think Ive ever seen the NHL thread fall this far down the page before, it was almost near the bottom...unacceptable.

Habs are looking like shit, we need to pound Phoenix tonight or heads have to roll. The bottom 6 forwards are utterly useless, except for Moen and Metropolit, which tells you right away how bad the rest has been. Who decided this Pacioretty kid was NHL worthy? He's useless, cant score, cant hit and cant keep the puck...send him home. Lapierre seems to want to take the year off and A.Kostitsyn's head is somewhere else, he clearly doesnt care anymore. Hell I almost miss Kovalev, thats sad. He was a drifter too but at least he scored once in awhile.

In happier news Komisarek is hurt and out for 3 weeks..

Good! Fuck em..i love this stat.. In 16 games so far this season, he has no goals, no assists and is a minus-9.

Thats okay he makes up for it by taking alot of untimely penalties and costing his team games.

I love it.

GO HABS FOR FUCK SAKES!

Give me a sign of life and here's hoping Price will win another game sometime this calendar year.

Haha. I'm sure if I told them I was a season ticket holder they'd probably give me the shot. In all seriousness, the Flames' vaccination incident was absolutely appalling. The health officials responsible for giving the go-ahead on that deal have rightfully been sacked. And what a PR disaster for the Flames. It was a brutal situation.

Anyways, back to the hockey talk. Saturday's game between the Flames and Leafs should be a fun one. I expect nothing short of absolute domination by Calgary. If we lose to that team, I'll puke in my mouth. The Flames are in Buffalo tomorrow night and all indications point to Kipper starting that game, so if the Flames end up starting their backup (McElhinney) in Toronto because of the back-to-back situation, the Leafs might actually have a slight advantage.

TDC I agree, it sounds like a big overreaction to suggest it but I just have a feeling its just not going to work with this kid in Montreal. I wonder if his head and heart are really in Montreal sometimes, there's minor rumblings that he's not happy there and it might be good to cash in on him and trade him to someone in the West for some real help and beef up this team. Halak will be fine for now, we can always add a veteran goalie or reliable back-up if he falters I dont see it as a big gamble he's a solid goalie and I think he can handle the load. At this point I dont think it matters anyway, the defence is in a shambles and the forwards are underachieving big time. We need size and scoring up front the kind of players who care and fight to win, Im tired of these heartless, gutless forwards (see:Kostitsyn, Latendresse et al..) We also need a reliable defenceman, but that will take some real manuevering on Bob's part. Yeah thats alot to ask for but its possible with rest of this year, the trade deadline and next summer to make this team a consistant playoff team for the next few years let's face it were stuck with Gomez, Gionta and Cammalleri for the next 5 years so a total rebuild is out of the question with those contracts. Pleckanec needs to be re-signed or cashed in on while he's hot, I like him as a second line centre, he's got great skill and speed, what sucks is that Gomez is our #1, and I wouldnt mind him so much if his contract wasnt so horrible. At this point I think he (BG) was better off keeping Koivu, saving the money and dealing Higgins and McDonaugh for someone else. I suppose if he had, Gionta and Cammalleri might not have signed on, who knows. Personally I wouldnt have cared and just bit the bullet on the season and tried loading up for a potential FA like Kovalchuk, whom I still think Gainey should go after like a dog in heat, this kid is exactly what the Habs need, he wasnt willing to give it all up for Lecavalier (which was probably for the best, his contract is one of the worst in the league) but not with Kovalchuck, he's worth the risk. And I still think if this fails to materialize by season's end no matter what he does, Gainey has to go, he's let way too much walk away for nothing back over the years and most Hab fans know the long list so I wont bother going through all the names, his blind faith in Price and lack of a real plan to build this team will be his undoing and screw us over for years unless he puts this right. Gainey has time but he's going to have to sacrifice some of the future and make some bold moves (FOR ONCE!!!!) and right this mess, otherwise fuck off and let someone with a real plan and some guts take the job. I really dont know how to solve this defence mess that's been created, with Spacek playing well Hamrlik's contract just got even worse and I hope he's gone after this year, two more years at 5mil with that guy isnt going to cut it, he has to go and make room for a real stud D-man to steady the back end of this team and play with Gorges. So many problems so little cap space.....frustration...ugh.

Secondary scoring is a huge problem the numbers dont lie, its pretty bad when Moen and Metropolit are carrying the load and logging heavy PP minutes..

This has to change, I have no faith in Pacioretty, Latendresse, D'Agostini and Gill. They are dead weight and the kind of players that drag a team down, Laraque is useless I wish they'd play Stewart more often, at least he can skate, he'd make a better enforcer all around imo. The Kostitsyn bros. need to get dealt, I like Andrei's skills he can play, but he's got a real problem with that whole not caring, coasting along thing, the Rocket would puke if he saw this mess.

Doesnt anyone care anymore? If anyone of those players had HALF the heart of this man we'd win more games and teams would be afraid to play us..

figures soon as i say trade Price, he has 50 saves and its still early in the 3rd vs Nashville, but of course we can barely manage a shot on goal or a scoring chance..our forwards are shit.

nice to see the Leafs lose again though.

Every Canadiens player should apologize personally to Price for letting him down with stupid penalties and poor play, the guy stopped about 60 shots and was amazing, you'd think the rest of the team would rise to the occasion and try to get him the win, bunch of gutless wonders. This is the kind of effort that makes me sick, wake up and smell the shit Bob.

Im starting to think he likes the smell of shit.

I watched the Dallas/Detroit game last night, still trying to figure out why Brad May's goal didn't count!

And did everyone see the goal celebration from the Swedish Elite League, where the guy jumped up against the glass afterwards & ended up going right through it? Classic.

How is the May goal not a goal?

As a referee, I just don't understand this. The ref didn't see it. That's fine. In minor hockey this is no goal. But in the NHL they have replay for this sort of thing. The puck went in on the shot. It wasn't a question of a stop and the puck trickling in as the whistle goes, that puck was clearly in the net on the shot. That's disgraceful.

And the SEL celebration was hilarious. Apparently, that was his first goal. Oops.

Since starting the season 7-1, the Rangers have won just 6 of 18 games. Brutal! Both games this weekend (blowouts complimence of Tampa Bay & Pittsburgh) were very hard to watch.
