Is Brian Burke ever gonna let this Dustin Penner, Kevin Lowe thing go? He's trying to acquire Phil Kessel, and that's all he's talking about!
It's not even like Penner turned out to be worth the money!

One week to go before pre-season starts! Last time I was this excited about an upcoming season was right after the lockout. As expected, the Flames got younger and faster over the offseason, and the acquisition of Bouwmeester will surely improve our defence. Not to mention having a great systems coach in Brent Sutter. Anything to erase the terrible memory of being 23rd in goals against last year. **shudder**

season is coming, the anticipation is palpable..ive been in quiet seclusion for the last week or two, i think ive read every yearbook and fantasy mag on the shelves, im ready to go i even gave my wife a glove wash today...she wasnt impressed. (for real) :lol:

im not sure im ready to go off on the Habs yet, Im still upset we didnt address our lack of size down the middle but ill bite my tongue until training camp is over, predictions are coming soon.

I can't wait for the season to underway! I'm really looking forward to seeing Marian Gaborik in a Rangers uniform! I like the addition of Chris Higgins as well, now if they could only get Brandon Dubinsky signed. Hopefully he'll ink a new deal before training camp opens...they are going to need all the offensive help they can get! We're set in goal with Lundqvist, and the defense should be solid with Staal, Girardi, Rozsival, Redden, and then some combination of Gilroy, Sanguetti, Del Zotto, etc. But it's the forward units that really worry me, not much offensive depth, and the only star forward is probably the most injury prone forward in the league.

2 teams i think are going to be really strong this season are the Philadelphia Flyers in the East, and the Anaheim Ducks in the West.

All things considered, i think the Sens got back a solid package. I'm a big fan of Milan Michalek & think he'll be a great fit in Ottawa, and although i can't forsee him ever putting up 56 goals again, i expect Cheechoo to return to the 30 goal range this season, plus a 2nd rounder, not bad. As for the Sharks, they definitely needed a shake-up, and Heatley should be a great fit playing alongside Joe Thornton.

Hope the Leafs have someone who can pass like Savard, or that one-nut wonder might not get 40, he's still probably good for around 30 which is a decent return these days, but if they give up two firsts and a second like Boston wanted, thats alot.

Leafs suck anyways, always will.

My thoughts exactly. Kessel is a great get, but they need a playmaker to complement him now.

Its a done deal according to TSN.

Phil Kessel to Toronto

1st and 2nd rd pick 2010, and 1st rd pick 2011 to Boston

Signs for 5 years $27mil.

He's a good young offensive player he's a good pickup but thats alot of early picks though. They might have to find a way to get some back, but Ive been hearing the next couple of draft classes arent that spectacular either so maybe its a good move. As with most trades, time will tell.

Why did it take this long for Toronto to get its head out of its ass?? Burke shows up and in less than a year has made more positive moves for this team than the last 10 years or more combined probably.

A guy who knows hockey gets complete control of hockey operations and suddenly good things happen. Go figure.

The Leafs have been run for years to be permanent underdogs, because they've figured out that people love to root for the underdog. They've sucked on purpose. The trick is to be just good enough to give the fans a little hope, and to have some gritty players who everyone can root for.

Problem is, they took it a little too far and pissed everyone off. So all of a sudden, there's a renewed interest in developing a team that can win.

That, and they know a team's coming to Hamilton in the next decade.

I wonder in what other league a team can consistently be top five in salary expense (pre-cap) and non-fans call that "running purposely to be a permanent underdog"? Great theory.

The real answer is players not meeting expectations, piss poor management and/or uncommitted ownership, which is pretty much the explanation for each and every failure in professional sports. You know, like the Habs over the last decade and a half.
