Phaneuf isn't going anywhere. He's been Sutter's pet project since he was first scouted back in junior. He's the future of the franchise. The Bouwmeester signing is pure genius.

Looks like Dany Heatley is traded to the Oilers for Ladislav Smid, Andrew Cogliano and Dustin Penner.
and I wont mention the other deal cause im still paralyzed with rage.
Huh. I thought the Flames were at or above the cap already.
I don't mind seeing Smid and Penner go, but I wish we'd held on to Cogliano.

So it looks like Heatley has decided not to waive his no trade clause to go to Edmonton...... Make up your mind Dany!
Re: NHL -
Lizard King - 07-01-2009
Here we go again, this same old story..
here i was thinking, ok bob you got all this cap space and a chance to really put something together, this is going to be the year when we get the big star player and build a solid winning team, how wrong i was.
Oh why did i get my hopes up again, i really should know better by now.
So Gainey knowning he cant give T-Bay what they want for Vinny, or he could but the feuding Tampa owners decided to keep Vinny afterall..take your pic. So he decides to scan the league for that "BIG POWERFUL CENTER" he kept saying he was looking for and knew he soo badly needed...and what do we end up with..FREAKING GOMEZ!!!
Why arent Habs fans setting cop cars on fire yet?
As a second line centre Gomez can be an effective player in the right mix, but he's no #1 and he's certainly not what we needed.
Hey Bob I sure hope as fuck you get a REAL winger to play with this guy or its going to be a long boring season.
So I see Hossa decided to sign with the Blackhawks for 12 years, good for him and Chicago, the terms are retarded but hey at least hes a star player, we cant say the same.
I guarantee Havlat will come to Montreal, this totally suck, first Im sure Gainey will overpay him, thats a given..why the hell else would he consider coming? Second the guy is so injury prone why take the chance? If your going to buy an injury prone goalscorer, you might as well overpay for Gaborik, on the slight (and I mean slight) chance he doesnt get hurt, the guy is a scoring machine and the fastest player in the league, but Im positive Gaborik wants nothing to do with Montreal, unless Gainey offers him 100 million over 10 years.
But the news isnt all bad, reports are saying that Kovalev is close to returning, his grit and determination will carry us through, hes a pure leader and comes to play every night*
*please not that previous statement was pure sarcastic horse-shit.
Komisarek is going to free agency, Bob really likes to let his d- men walk for nothing, smart move Bob ditching Souray for nothing, Streit for nothing and now Komisarek, its enough to make you cry. Ohlund is gone to Tampa, Bouwmeester never was going to Montreal, he lets Komi go to free agency, I sure hope we land Beauchemin or Subban and Weber better get real good real fast or this team will die in its own end.
I feel sick..
Gainey has taken this team nowhere, that 1st overall season two years ago was a total fluke and a one off, it gave them a false sense of confidence that fell apart over last season when reality finally kicked in.
Gainey should be fired or at least shot in the head and dragged through the downtown by a zamboni driven by Youppi.
This totally sucks, fuck you Bob.
Now i know what it feels like to be a Leafs fan..
Somone please put a bullet in my brain.

As a Sabres fan, I am really going to hate when they have to play Montreal 8 times this year!

The habs have also added Gionta. The Gomez deal doesn't look so bad anymore with the reuniting of these 2 ex-Devils.

But Komisarek to the
Leafs?
He's going to want protection when he comes to town next season, I think....

Eric Engels blog sums up the Komisarek situation nicely..

I liked what he brought to the team, he wasnt the best in his own zone but I liked his toughness. But why Toronto?
Geez
I like Cammileri, we needed a winger and he plays hard, an upgrade over Tanguay or Higgins.
The big question is can Gomez and Gionta recapture the magic they had in NJ, I hope so or that is one bad contract. I'm going to miss Koivu, hate to seem him go like this. Gainey must of felt that it was never going to happen with Saku as Captain, maybe its what we needed, but it still hurts.
Gill is big and hits hard, Spacek is a solid d-man, but I still wish we kept Streit.
We need a power forward to complement this group, and if we can somehow lure Beauchemin it just may work..than again maybe it wont.
Re: NHL -
skippy the wonder dog - 07-02-2009
I hate to see Koivu go like this, too, but Gainey's probably looking at him and saying, too much money.
He wasn't as good last year as he has been, I don't think.
It looks like Kovalev's on his way out, too, the most maddeningly inconsistent player in the league. That one I guess is no loss, the real loss is that he can't be consistent.
And speaking of the Leafs, who thinks Grabovski's worth 2.9 million a year? Other than Grabovski himself, I mean?
Re: NHL -
skippy the wonder dog - 07-06-2009
And Gainey confirms Kovalev won't be back. He offered him a contract, Kovalev thought about it too long, and so Gainey took it away and said, see you later.
Kovalev might take that personally, pick up his game a notch wherever he lands, and make Gainey look like a fool. If only that guy could always play up to his potential....
Re: NHL -
The Darkest Canuck - 07-06-2009
I've heard that there's still a chance of Koivu re-signing with Montreal. If Kovalev's out, then i would imagine that helps Koivu's chances.
*edit* just after i posted this:

Kovalev signs with Ottawa.
C'mon, bring back Koivu!
