First off i'm glad Lucic was suspended...I'd have to see the highlight again before saying it was just as bad as Lucic's, but i thought the cross check to the face by Alex Semin in Game 2 was pretty bad as well. I can't remember which Ranger it was he hit.

maybe if the guy he cross checked had gotten hurt , he would have gotten more

the league has to see some real damage , I think , before they suspend for more than one game

It was a bonehead move , late in the game and ended up hurting us more than it did the Habs

Likely you're right ... but I've said it before, the NHL needs to start penalizing the offense, not the outcome.

I agree , but playoffs seem to be a whole different animal

Was watching ron Mclean get all amped up about the 'sending a message" late in the game... I sensed that he was
saying that scenario desreves more attention than if the same thing would have happened earlier in the game ?

Why should that be ? Shouldn't an infraction that warrants a suspesion be the same , no matter when ?

Any logical person would agree with you, but Colin Campbell disagrees. It was astounding to see how stupid Colin Campbell really is in his interview with Ron McLean. He flat out stated that intent to injure doesn't hold any bearing, they will only suspend if someone gets hurt, and severity of injury matters even if the same play was administered with 2 different outcomes. And his argument that Camalleiri didn't get suspended because it was a 1-1 game in the 1st period (?) therefore making it different from what Carcillo did because Carcillo did it at the end of the game held no water at all, especially after he got mad at McLean for bringing up the issue of 'last 5 minutes.' It's obvious the league doesn't care about the health of its own players, and with a numbskull like Campbell in charge of discipline nothing will ever change.

I'm in Calgary for work this week and I checked ticketmaster this morning by chance, and was able to score a pair of nosebleeds for tonight. Cheering for the Flames is not something I would normally do, but here's hoping they can turn it around so that we can get Flames/Canucks in round 2...

Well... cheap shots in the last minutes of a game do merit more severe treatment, I think, if they're administered in the dying minutes of the last game of a series by the losing side. That's when you can get the chickenshit attempts to injure out of spite, and the league should land on those with both feet.

But generally, I think they should be even-handed and consider the act, not its consequences or its timing. Saying that you punish only if there's an injury is moronic -- since most incidents don't result in serious injury, that actually encourages the elbows, head shots, etc.

I am getting so sick of all the attenton that is given to Sean Avery!! Yes he's a decent player, but he's a 3rd liner who somehow manages to become the focal point of the media & announcers every single game. Nicklas Backstrom had an amazing game tonight, he was dominant all game long & we hardly heard a thing about him. I swear Avery has been getting more attention than anyone in this series so far, that just not right considering the wealth of talent on both sides, Lundqvist, Gomez, Callahan, Ovechkin, Semin, Green, Backstrom, etc. :nooooo

Just got back from the Flames game...man, I'd forgotten what an awesome experience the C of Red can be when the Flames are winning. Also, I'm hearing the Black Hawks are going OTT with their chirping; kinda of odd that a young, inexperienced team would give someone like Jarome Iginla any additional incentive to play hard. Toews looked like he was on the verge (heh) of snapping by the end. Should be a helluva game on Wednesday!

HUGE win for the Flames tonight. Now we've got a series! That was easily the most physical game I've seen so far in these playoffs. Calgary's relentless forecheck and constant pounding of the Hawks' D was the difference. And of course Kipper was outstanding. Chicago is a young finesse team and aren't used to playing this kind of crash & bang style, and after three games I think it finally took it's toll on them tonight. The Flames on the other hand are a veteran bunch who have been playing this style for a few seasons now. I think if they continue to win those puck battles and hit everything that moves, this series will be tied by Wednesday night......I hope. We're still giving up too many shots and quality scoring chances, which is a bit worrisome.

GO FLAMES!!!

After all the chirping I had to endure this season from my Habs-fan friends, I couldn't be happier with the beat-down they are taking.

If only the Blues had done the same to the 'nucks......
